London skyline photos - where to go?

I really want to get some nice pictures of London's skyline. What are some good places to go? I thought about going up monument. Is it possible to get to the top of St Paul's Cathedral?

And if possible not too expensive ;)
 
Top of St Pauls, Tower Bridge. Oxo tower, Monument, London Eye, Primrose Hill. Can't think of anymore:thinking:.
 
Tate modern has a fairly good view from the top floor balcony.

Im looking forward to the Shard being opened, that will have a top story viewing platform.
 
+1 for the balcony of Tate Modern.

I was driving round the Circular and through the Blackwall Tunnel last week, in theory there's a great view of Docklands from near the O2 Arena looking across the river as the sunsets, but I haven't a clue if there's anywhere you can actually set-up that would give you the theoretical view.
 
I've not been up there yet, but the roof terrace at the Jean Nouvel's recently completed One New Change on Cheapside offers some decent views from some of the photos I've seen of The Shard under construction from there.

A little further out of town, there's a good vista from Greenwich Park.

e2a: If you happen to know someone who's a member of the Paramount Club, you can get some great pics from the top of Centre Point ;)

Hampstead Heath little but further back from primrose but a fine viewpoint from parliament hill choose a good wide-angle and you can pretty much get in frame everything from east of Hyde park All the way over to canary wharf. On clear day pretty much unrivalled and on a clear moonless sky very very nice night time view of london.

You don't need to be a member of the club anymore to use the restaurant. I can personally vouch for the view (and the food is pretty good too!) - the view is especially good as you can see the City in one direction and Canary Wharf in another. You might feel a bit out of place togging away in the restaurant though - there's also a bar on the floor above which might be suitable. I think you have to have eaten in the Restaurant (or be a member) to use the bar though - although things might have changed since I went (last July).
 
IME They're a bit touchy about people taking photos in the bar, but the gallery on the floor above is tolerated if there's nobody else around.
 
Sorry, I forgot that there's two bars - one on the restaurant floor and one that's in the gallery floor above. I think you need to have eaten downstairs to use either bar. When I went, the upstairs gallery was busy near the bar but the other 3 sides were almost empty - you could probably do some sneaky togging if you were discrete ( how you'd smuggle your kit in is a different matter). Probably best to check with them beforehand to avoid disappointment or ill-feeling.
There's also a bar at the top of the Hilton that might have good views (can't remember as I was a bit tipsy...).
View from Tate Modern bar is one of the best in London - good sight of St. Paul's. Should be ok to use a tripod if you go out on the balcony when it's quiet (i.e. cold or raining) - would be tricky inside as it's quite crowded and you'd spoil the ambience ;)
