So I'm new to both London and photography.

I picked up my first DSLR recently, a Canon 7D, along with a couple lenses:

EF-S 10-22mm, EF 100mm f/2.8 L Macro and 50mm f/1.4

I'm primarily interested in taking photos of landscapes (including cityscapes and architecture) and nature (eg insects, birds, squirrels... things that move rather than plants & flowers).

Can you recommend some great locations in London where I could make the most of the wide angle and macro lenses?

Thanks,
Joe.

Just wander around - the streets of London are great for photography.

For plants / animals, go to the parks; head over to St James Park and there will be squirrels in abundance ready to feed off of your hands.

Cityscapes - The city but go on a Sunday, less people.

Nature - As said the parks. St.James's Park, Hyde Park, Regents Park (London Zoo is situated there).

For anything else, and if you want to tag along with some loons, there's always the Borough Market TP meet. Plenty of people coming to that will be willing and able to help you out.

Oh, and early mornings at Hampstead Heath and Richmond Park.

and the vista from Richmond Park over the city and St Pauls

The Embankment is a great place to start because you have the architectural monoliths of the National Theatre and St. Pauls all within walking distance. It is also full of tourists, street performers, skateboarders and freaks.

As a wildcard I would definitely recommend either Kensal Green or West Brompton cemetaries. They are phenomenal to shoot in and full of squirrels covering 400 year old graves and family mosoliums.

I like the Barbican for its moody walkways and elevations, like a rough council estate but without the violence.
:)
Anywhere from Borough, along the southbank and to Waterloo.

The South Bank is generally a great place. I really like Trafalgar Square for some street photography.

Plus 1 on the Southbank. Lovely walk on a nice day and plenty to shoot.

+1 on southbank. Isle of dogs is also a good place to go. I was there today, unfortunately not for photography. You can also get some great shots at Hampton court, only when it's sunny though, then you can make a day of it along the river.

I've tagged on the map on my London shots in my Flickr, Chinatown at this time of year will be great.
