How are people finding London generally? I want to go down this weekend from Manchester, but terrified of being pulled over by the police at every place I want to photograph, lol. Just wondering how the police are these days in London with amaterur togs

I don't intend to take tripod just my bag, one dslr and one lens my 24-70.

I want to go on that bridge near Westminster to take a pic of the House, and to Regents Park and general places. Wont go as far as St Pauls Cathedral as I will be on foot for the most part.

Is it allowed to take pics of the London Eye for example. Think I will avoid areas like SIS at Vauxhall Cross though even though I find that building to be stunning.

I like to take pics of buildings, but also of general life in London.

Just wondered any one got any pointers or advice, thanks :)
 
I think you're being a little overly paranoid.. having a tripod may cause issues at some places, but you're not going to get stopped for taking a pic of the London Eye???

You're being far too paranoid!
 
You can't move in central london without falling over amateur photographers (and some paps). Particularly around the London Eye or all along the whole stretch of the South Bank going east of there as far as the Rose its pretty-much wall-to-wall 'togs.

In fact, that makes a nice walk which is very managable - start around Westminster Tube, cross the bridge and turn left on the wide river walk, go past The Eye and QE2/NT/LWT (skateboarders and booksellers are popular and willing photo subjects), potter on, there's a temporary diversion on a short bit of on-road pavement because of Blackfriers Station construction - follow the banners on the lampposts. You then come out at Tate Modern, cross the Wobbly Bridge (tm) and you will find yourself at St.Pauls.

Believe it or not, that's only a 20-30 mins walk ....plus however many photography stops you fancy!
 
I don't think you will have any issues I was down twice in Jan and both times I had lots of kit with me, I did this on Westminster bridge http://www.flickr.com/photos/mwhcvt/5372481282/in/set-72157622801523928/ and even the coppers that were within 10 yards of me didn't bat an eyelid

I would say this I found if you look proficient/professional in you use of your camera and have lots of kit with you be prepared to have tourists asking you to use there cameras to take there photo, that happened to me a couple of times while taking the photo above, not that I minded :)

Haven't been stopped yet. And that includes sitting outside Canary Wharf and Parliament with the camera on the tripod.

Coppers in general don't do much, but it is the thick skulled security guards that are the ones to watch out for.

Basically go for it and don't worry
 
I'd agree with all of the above I'm out with all my gear in central London on a weekly basis and have never been stopped or had an eyelid batted at me, only once have I been asked ti change what I was doing but that because I had tripod set up on the grounds of the London which is private property, but you will be fine snapping away down here

That's a good point actually - its the security guards dressed-up as pseudo-policemen that give photographers grief, not coppers. These are most found in Canary Wharf (whole area is private land) and around some buildings in the city (although I've never been hassled standing on the pavement).

There's some videos on youtube of these particular numpties.
 
Never had any problems. See loads of photographers around the Tate and along the Southbank.

Can't fault this walk...Actually just came back from it...

If you want to extend it a bit you can continue towards london bridge for some magnificent views of the tower bridge :)
 
I think London is one of the most photographed cities in the world! In the West End Every other person is a tourist with a camera.
