London Idea?

How about graffiti or candids or urban wildlife or train/plane/bus spotting?

Anything there?

Chris

How about the under-world? There is a huge array of underground tunnels that are not used! It's supposed to be all spooky and a lot of weird stories about them

under world?

Hmm interesting but I dont want to go tres passing the underground tunnels. It might be full of bats and be creepy.

Get in touch with whoever runs/owns them. If they're disused and safe you might find someone friendly who's happy to let you go.......if you don't ask you'll never know! You could just go exploring.....leave the touristy places and you'll probably be surprised at what you can find that you never knew about before!

This month's London Time Out has 5 walks of london taking in some nice sites, not the normal tourist ones.

I work for London Underground and there are quite a few unused tunnels and many closed stations. Getting access is unlikely unless you are a professional photographer or film maker...if you are contract LU's head Office at 55 Broadway they have an office there that deals with film work/photography.

Some of the stations are great sites. The Jubliee Line from Westminster to Stratford has some fantastic modern stations and the Met/Circle line from Baker Street east has the oldest underground staions in the world. Take a look at St Pancreas as well, following the Eurostar refurb its an impressive building and has a 'mile long champagne bar' if you feel thursty.

If you go down the Jubilee Line get off at Canary Wharf good place for photos especially at the weekend when the offices are empty and North Greenwich for the O2/Millenium Dome.

But remember no flash photography on an underground station when trains come into the stations...I'm a driver there and its a real pain when you enter a station at 40mph and get semi blinded by a flash! If you are going to spend any time at a particular station ask to see the Station Supervisor first (just to let him/her know your on site...we're a bit paranoid about people taking lots of photos following the bombs in 2005) and aviod the rush hours unless you're after crowds!

By the way there are no Bats in the tunnels!! But they can be creepy if you are on your own!! There are lots of mice though!!

Pick a station in zone 5.

Go there ... give yourself thirty minutes to take some pictures.

Yeah believe Ive spent more time on the underground that you can imagine.

Always wanted a panning shot of the train actually just worried if that is allowed or not.

I can just see the station master kicking up a fuss about it tbh

I work on the Underground too, iv been able to get access to some nice places, but it REALLY helps being a member of staff..

Even if you get a permit you wont get access to some of the good stuff.. also there are lots of restrictions on what you can shoot and in what context you shoot it.. You cant sell either, unless you get permision.. and thats expensive!!

Iv got a few ideas i need to do on the Underground still.. so keep a look out on the forum..

i WAS a driver until recently, iv had problems with my shoulder and have had several operations.. the last made it worse!! now i work on the stations.. im at Oxford Circus and Pic Circus at the moment..

I can still get into the cabs to take pics if i want, i have plenty of friends that will let me in with them..

St. James park has some good views across the pond.

Sorry should have been a bit clearer. I meant using the half hour - or whatever time allowance you give yourself - to leave the station and get some photos of the surrounding area.
