So myself and the other half are off to London for the day on Monday as she wants to go on the London Eye and seeing as I work in London a lot it will be nice to do the Tourist thing. A Few things I hope I can get some help with.

Parking - I am thinking of Parking in Westfield White City as it is £6 per day and is near the Shepherd's Bush Tube station. Does anyone know of anywhere else that has guaranteed spaces for the same price on the M4 corridor that has easy access to a tube station?

Lenses - I only have a choice of 3 so my 18-55mm is a definite, however I am not sure if I should bother taking my 55-200mm as I am not sure if I would need it or not (I'm thinking I should take it just in case anyway) unfortunately I don't have a smaller lens so the wide angle shots are out of the question. Not going to bother with my 100-300mm (unless someone thinks otherwise).

Undecided on tripod as mine isn't really compact and my camera backpack doesn't have any facility to strap it to the outside so not sure if I want to have to carry this around as well as my camera backpack.

Any advise would be much appreciated.

not sure about coming in from the west ,,,cant help with parking ,,

as for lenses ,,do you want to travel light or have to lug more weight around with you ,,i think the 18 -55 is fine if not ,the same for a tripod, pain in the arris carrying it about when you might not get a chance to use it ,and dont forget you might have problems setting it up around the eye ,,as its all private property around there
also , if its a day out with the mrs (?) she might want to spend it with you ,not having to cart all your bits and pieces about

so for me it would be stick with the small zoom ( on a trip like that ) if it was a " i need certain pictures trip " then take everything and leave the mrs at home

Hi Darren, I drove into London yesterday and used the Westfield car park (£9.00 at the weekend). I use it anytime I am going into the centre of London mostly weekdays for the £6.00 you mention. Usually I stop at the shopping centre for a coffee and muffin before I head down to Shepherd's Bush station for the Central Line which goes right into the centre of London.

Keep an eye on the traffic reports as it can be very congested from the start of the A4/end of M4 all the way through to Westfield. If it is very bad I would use the tube station at Osterley (near Heathrow on the A4). It has a car park that is not too expensive and is on the Piccadilly line. No handy coffee shops though ;-(

Enjoy your day out in London.

Michael

Thanks Donut.

I will probably leave the mrs at home then.......... I mean the tripod ;). My 55-200 is light enough so I will keep that in just in case.

She knows the score with the photography tho so hopefully no complaints off her plus I though the point in taking the mrs out for the day was to have the extra pair of hands to carry around the gear :D

Thanks Michael, I'm used to sitting in the traffic going into London with work but if it looks too bad then Osterley it is.
