I have never had an issue which I have needed them to deal with, which is always the test of a good retailer. so can't really comment what the service would be like in that circumstance.
What I can say is that they have been around a long time (I bought my first film SLR from them back in 1989) and are always helpful when you want to look at kit.

I've bought new stuff and second hand stuff from several branches. They've always been super helpful and very knowledgeable.

I used them once to buy a pair of binoculars and that would be about my limit with them. I notice that their branch in Paignton Devon has now closed, not sure if that was due to lack of trade there or a sign of things to come :shrug:

You need to check your maths. If the VAT inclusive price is £1,099, the VAT you can recover is only £183, not £220.
You are right my good man it is 183 quid. Still a good saving tho'. But paying a little extra for piece of mind buying from a shop that is in this country is worth it. Plus I can see what part exchange deal they will do on my 550 body and they may do a deal on another lens. I made the mistake of going into Camera solutions in Chester to have a feel and a play of a 7d and I must say I loved it and now I really want one even though it does feel rather heavy .

LCE are great.
I moved to using them about 3 years ago, and they get all my spend now for new Nikon kit, and my other new accessories.
I use the pro-centre in Southampton, and they are a great team - LCE would get my vote as well as Park Cameras and Mifsuds as three of the best camera stores for knowledgeable staff, good selection of kit and good pricing.
