No lose the reflection

To OP, from a professional designer, your latest revision is definitely acceptable (without the legs). Try experimenting with line-height and kerning (letter spacing) to try and achieve a unique look with the font.

I liked the idea of aperture blades, I think you could try and incorporate it back into the new design :D

The reflection might work in some circumstances but I don't think it would look good on plain paper for example. A logo needs to work well in any medium you're going to use and (in my opinion) it should be simple to be effective.

Is it just me or does the latest design look like it is a programme intended for Apple users. The word Mac (i know its the op name) is reminiscent of the old Apple mac font.

I was thinking something along the lines of....
mac.jpg

A quite casual name font, and a simple easy to read product font, with a modern cartoon style simple logo. Just a quick 5 minute knock up, but the ideas there.

Just my 2p's worth I would move the camera icon and make it one of the "o"s in photo then maybe try some spash to imitate a flash going off.

I like your one Dino does what it says on the tin.

Thanks for all the comments guys whilst I have been away, interesting points made.....

Looks a bit "point & shoot" ?

Nothing like a MkIII :)

Chris Gill

Chris, I never intended it to look like a MK III. I just wanted something a little different and maybe quirky instead of just using a font as a logo. That was my initial thought and it has progressed since then.

The idea of the flash is good but that doesn't really work for me as it looks like the X from Mac OS X and I really dont want to have any comparisons to Apple Mac at all. As previously mentioned the use of Mac is simply because thats what I am called, but I do appreciate what you are getting at.

I really like the design you have knocked together. Totally different from mine but yet in the same frame of mind. I thought for a long time about whether or not to go with the name Mac Photography or just use Mac Photos as that is my domain name but the more I look at the one you did the more I like it. PM on way mate for a bit of advice.....

Thanks

Ok then after a little bit of help from Dino I think I am going to go for something like this

The actual colours used may change depending on how my website changes, not entirely sure what colours will work with the different backgrounds etc but I think the actual design is pretty close to what I want it to be. Big Thanks to Dino for the actual design of the camera body, must admit he succeeded in producing what I had tried to produce and could see in my mind but couldnt actually draw.

I also used the word photography instead of photos simply because as others had stated it looked like an apple mac software and I clearly want a distinction between my brand and apple to avoid any confusion.

Thanks to all that has commented and contributed on this thread, has been quite nice to get peoples feedback and opinions.

Cheers

intersting thread

whatever you settle on it needs to be easy to reproduce for use on cards , flyers , invoices etc , this is especially important where colour is concerned if you get stuuf printed elsewhere it needs to be colour consistent
