Is fhere any locksmiths on here or anyone with some knowledge?

My UPVC door handle started to spin so i took the locking gearbox out and replaced with a similar part ( Mila). I put it all back together and the deadlocks etc all work fine however when i try to lock with the key the deadlocks etc just open with a push of the door handle. If i hold the key turned as much as possible it will stay locked. It feels as if the key needs another small turn to fully lock and hold but it doesn't go any further. Im left with doors which shut fine but wont lock. Any ideas?

By coincidence, I just had a problem with my lock on my UPVC door.

I called out a local locksmith. New mechanism, new handle, all cleaned and adjusted. £160. Well worth it in my opinion.

Just realised my handle doesnt go fully up like it used to do so key wont turn to lock it. Need to investigate further tomorrow
We had such an issue but on our case the lock was 100% AOK......the door hanging needed the hinges tweaking to adjust the overall alignment by a very small amount.

Thanks for the reply. We never had any other issues before the handle spun so I’m thinking I have done something when I replaced the locking mechanism/gearbox. I will disconnect everything tomorrow to see if it’s ok just with the handle on it then I will do one step at a time and testing after each step.

I had issues with a Rehau door we had fitted a year ago, the gearbox was starting to fail and was jamming up. I switched it out and all is good again but very disappointed because I was under the impression that Rehau were a top brand. Their customer service was shocking.

Most double glazing door and window handles/locks are very easily replaced and the complete items with keys can be bought on Amazon and Ebay for under £30.00.
I replaced (upgraded) all our door and window handles when we moved in and I cannot even spell DIY !

Still no kuck yet. Disconnected everything and took it one stage at a tine. Found the gearbox only goes up one stage to full so thats working. Put all the bits together one but at a time and still not locking. I have new lock coming today in the off chance the lock has an issue.

Does the door operate properly when it's open?

If the handle raises & allows the key turn, then your problem is with the position of the keeps on the frame.

Update- i got this sorted. Took it all apart again and started from the beginning. Put into the locked position before putting on the door strip and took it one stage at a time. Connected the top and bottom sections a few times before getting in the correct position so all good now.
