Locations on a return journey from Hawes

I'm booked in to a hide next week at Wild Dales in Hawes shooting red squirrels.

The session finishes at 1400 and I have time to myself for the rest of the day, aiming to end up back in Todmorden early evening.

Can anyone recommend any good locations south of Hawes.

This is a beautiful area and I'm spoilt for choice!

The only down side is I won't be able to hang around the area till sunset time due to family commitments. So looking for something that could be shot during the day. Any recommendations for waterfalls?

Any suggestions appreciated.

Assuming you are up at Snaizeholme you will be on the Hawes/Ingleton road, so head towards Ingleton.

Take the minor road from Newby Head Moss and in about 1.75 miles there is a pull in on your left at the entrance to a small plantation. Park your car and cross the road. Go over the wall and down to the beck. Up on the hillside in front of you is a superb ruined farmhouse; it's just an uphill slog to get to it.

Back in the car you can carry on and see Dent Head viaduct. Carry on that road to Stone House and up the rough track is Artengill viaduct. No steam trains at present. The river (Dee) is full of mini waterfalls although you might need your wellies to get the best shots.

You can then carry on through Dentdale to Dent, or retrace your route to Newby Head, turn right and you will come to Ribblehead and grockles.

Back on the Ingleton road take the turn to Chapel le Dale. Use the car park and walk to the little chapel. Excellent potential there.

Back on the main road use on of the many pull ins after White Scar cave and walk across the road and through fields to the stepping stones at Beezleys. Excellent bacon butties at the hut on the waterfalls walk. Alternatively from the car go left up the hillside onto White Scars for an assortment of lone trees with good backdrops.

Then it's 30 mins to M6 at Lancaster and home.

Lastly - get a map!!!

Thanks! That sounds like a plan! I do have an OS map of the area (scratches head looking at the surrounding piles of paper and bookshelves)
