Hi, I am going to be spending 5 days in Newquay (just off Fistral Beach) in early June and am looking for suggestions for shooting locations............. I've found some (using street-view to wander round) but would greatly appreciate any suggestions that anyone who has been there and/or knows the area.

Thanks.

I did some work in Truro re fitting a massive Tesco, and we had a day off inbetween shifts so if you get chance head into Newquay it's self and head to Towan beach as it's beautiful.

Bedruthan steps is close by. Padstow is a little further afield. As are a few other places including Lands End, just depends how far you eant to travel. Enjoy.

My wife & I will be in Newquay in early June for a week staying next to Fistral beach!

Will you have transport or are you on foot etc?

Fistral beach itself is not a bad place. There are some interesting rock pools etc & further round in front of the Headland hotel are some nice little coves along with the old lifeboat station.

There are lots of place within a short drive as well. Bedruthan steps is a great spot!

Cheers T

Perranporth beach is great for sunsets.
St Ives is a very picturesque place.
Godrevy lighthouse was my favourite place when there last year, can get some great pics from the rocks and beach looking across to it.
Mr Toad off here is a local I believe so would have the best info.
Enjoy your Hols when you go, it's a lovely part of the country.

My advice would be to simply explore, rather than to try and recreate existing photographs, you have enough days there and you may well find something that you can really call your own:)

I always come away with something better when there's less of a pre conceived idea in my head if that makes sense!

Cheers bikerbabe, I'll look into that. Thanks everyone, I will be getting around on foot (and/or by local bus services) tomh. I'll look into those Martyn, thanks....... Brazo, not really looking to recreate other peoples shots, just looking for suggestions for good locations :)

the sand dunes around Daymer Bay & St Enedoc Golf Course are really beautiful, and the sea is a really extraordinary colour - go there for a half-day from Padstow, but beware, the sand is a bit 'sinky' in places and you might lose a shoe!

Hi Tom, I'll be on foot (or using local bus services) as I'll be there with a coach tour from my area. I've been having a bit of a scout around using google earth (isn't technology amazing?! couldn't have done that 20 years ago) I've seen that Fistral beach is a good location for photographing surfers, thanks for the tip about the rock pools :) The lifeboat station will definitely be of interest as I grew up in a village that has the oldest operational lifeboat station in the UK, is that the white tower type thing on the cliff top? (hmmm, maybe not lol)

You staying at the Fistral Beach hotel?

Padstow lifeboat station is some way from Padstow, last time we went there it was fenced off, and there's a fair few steps to climb up and down!

have a look here, you'll get an idea what it's like!!!! http://www.lscfacades.co.uk/trespa/index.html (click on padstow lifeboat station)

You staying at the Fistral Beach hotel?

The lifeboat station is near the white hut & the white hut could make an interesting subject as well. I can post a few pics up later to give you an idea of the area if you like?

We will be staying at the headland hotel which is right next to Fistral beach.

Ah I'll be staying at the Fistral Beach hotel....... oh that could be helpful thanks Tom :) I've had another look on Google Earth and have now seen where the lifeboat station is. Yes I'm hoping for a good sunset while I'm there Lee :)

Hopefully this will give u a few ideas. I only shoot landscapes myself so I cant really advise on much else I'm afraid.

I think your probably looking at around a 15-20 minute walk from one end of the beach to the other. Not 100% on that.

All the photos were taken in early June last year so should give you a good idea what it will look like. There are more photos on my flickr page if you would like to look.
