Location Lighting with Joe McNally - London - July 23rd

Well, I'm up for it . Am staying in Queensway, so any part of central London is good for me.

Should we all wear red carnations to the seminar , or something more subtle perhaps :D!? Maybe they'll do an announcement for us at the end :|. Something like:

"Will all members of the Talk Photography forum who wish to take up JasonRS's kind offer of free beer, assemble in the foyer please".

I think if we just storm the Front Rows we'll be OK...

Password: "The Crows fly North to Lenningrad..."
Countersign: "You're a bit of a saddo, aren't you...?"

Outside/in the Foyer of the Business Design centre at 09.00 for check-in - everyone remember to print out their tickets?

Wish I`d followed through and booked this when I saw it - had to balance new gear with cost. Still I got his book off Amazon :-(

Really looking forward to it now (not looking forward to London rush hour in the slightest, though - will probably just walk from St Pancras....)

My train doesn't get in until 9 tomorrow morning so i'll be the one who is rushing to get to the venue lol.

Oh, I just found this thread. Good to know that I will have a chance to meet some of you:)
So, should we meet somewhere?

I will try to get there quite early to get to the front row...

If you will see me, come over and say hi

Go Figure- I got out of work a day early!!!!
So I should have booked:'(

Is it too late??

I just checked, it lets me buy another ticket. SO.... :)

I'm sat on the trian now. Anyone up for meeting up after the seminar too? I suppose i need to find you all first lol.

Any first thoughts/glimpses/reports/images ?

Did TP storm the front?

If I see any tweets or posts from anybody sitting in this thing, I'm going to start digging out a large pair of big rusty bolt cutters and take them to parts unmentionable of whoever does the tweeting or posting. :(

I so wish I could've made this one. Ever since I started seeing his stuff online I said the day he does a workshop in the UK I'll be there, no question.

Now, everything that could conspire against me to prevent it from happening, has happened. :(

Maybe they've all been kidnapped. Hope they left their gear at the door :)

Oh well, hoping to get to Zak Arias's Onelight workshop later this year anyway. If I go I'll tweet an update or 2

Yeah, I think I'll have to go to Zack's now. I skipped David Hobby's in order to be able to do Joe's too, heh.

For those who missed it this was an awesome seminar. Joe McNally's style as a lecturer and his wealth of experience make this a great day of training with some laughs along the way.

Even if you've read his books and watched his videos on Kelby Training it's still a great experience to watch a pro at the top of their game in real life work through various scenes and lighting scenarios. It's also good to know that even the pro's run into trouble once in awhile and that they come across the same issues as anyone might, but then they apply their knowledge and experience and show you how to work through the problems.

Had a great day and the course was worth every penny, even got to shake hands with the man himself and thank him personally for a great days training which made my day even better.

Now I'm off to FlashInThePan's strobist kit post to look at kitting up with some light shaping tools :)

Just arrived back home - it was great. Joe is just super entertaining, and every point he tries to bring over is being developed from scratch through example. So, he's not just saying "in this situation, use this and that light", he'll start with no flash at all and then works his way up from there. Highly recommended!

I was first to put my ass on the chair, right in the first row, just next to the stage.
The seminar was great: Joe is really down to earth type of guy. I've picked up few tricks, had a great time, but there wasn't anything there that would surprise me.
I think it was more beneficial for those who are just starting out with CLS/off camera flash.

I think that Joe was born to teach, and with 30+ years shooting, he knows a lot about the industry we are all in.
If you missed it: ...well... don't miss his next seminar!

PS: I have autographs on Joe's books and a piccie with him. Cool :D

I too am on my way home on the train (after a few pints). I've had a fantastic day today. Joe is one of a kind and brings a lot of humour and knowledge into his teaching. I've been to quite a few seminars and none match this quality.

Did anyone who attended hear wtf the old guy was babbling on about in the morning? The part where Joe shouting "is that group A or Group B?". Also, those people who were chirping up telling him how to do his job... That would certainly get on my nerves a little. Joe seemed to handle them well though.

Only just found out about this last night, would have loved the trip over. Is he likely to come back to the UK for another soon?

many thanks to everybody who came out today to the Kelby Tour Lighting workshop in London! Great group of folks..had a blast.....

There we are, best buds ;)

I was second row directly in front of the stage (baseball hat and t-shirt with 'Task Force Helmand Media PIC, Lashkar Gah, Afghanistan' on it - I thought someone might have noticed...lol).
You may also have heard me after lunch telling the fat oriental kid who'd stolen someone else's seat that he was a T0$$er (and much else besides!).

The old bloke was going on about flash powder FFS - I was literally cringing with embarassment!

Agreed though, Joe was a brilliant tutor and made everything look very easy.
I particularly liked watching the whole process, including the mistakes - very comforting!
