Location Lighting Techniques Tour

Joe McNally (regarded as one of the world's best shooters and author of the ground-breaking smash best-selling book The Moment it Clicks) launches a nationwide lighting tour uncovering the secrets to using off-camera flash and on-location lighting to create the look you see in professional publications. You'll see the whole process unfold right there in the class, as Joe shows you how to set-up, position, and control simple lighting that has a huge effect.

You'll learn the step-by-step process of going from bad to good light with just one flash, then working your way up to two or more flashes. You'll see the dramatic difference taking your flash off the camera makes. Then you'll learn the difference between the quality and quantity of light when using small flashes and studio lights. Joe will take you through a variety of lighting set ups with live demonstrations and you'll see first-hand how improving your lighting techniques takes your photography to a new level.

Joe teaches small, intimate workshops around the world for just a handful of people, but now you too will have a rare opportunity to learn from one of the most talented, engaging and creative photographers and educators working today, and you don't want to miss it.

I would definitely go to this but I just went to the Strobist seminar so can't afford it! Need to earn some money asap.

I've got my ticket for this too. :)

Looks like I'll be seeing you again Jay, just booked my place. Will you be wearing a little off the shoulder number in case you have to do some modelling again?

Just Paid online - how long til I get confirmation?

:)

I think Joe uses models / dancers for his sessions and doesn't rope the audience in much

They process during the working week, so the e-ticket will arrive monday pm I reckon. You should have got an order receipt straight away though.

yep...hope there's enough room for us all - could we hold an unofficial TP meet there?

Sounds good to me - my Bro lives in Greenhythe - just a short tube-ride away...I can leave the car parked there after the drive over from Germany and commute in for the night before...though I predict we'll be in no fit state to take info on board the next morning if we do...

Sounds like a (very bad idea) plan is coming together! Jason, was it you that only takes caffeine and sugar? I remember someone in Brum saying that.

By the way, think it's labour day in States on Monday so don't expect anything at beginning of the week.

I'd be up for the meetup, although i'm going down in the morning and coming back on the night. :(

would love to go to this but i fear i have too much basic stuff to learn first :)

Dammit, was just about to click to buy, then realised that its the last day of work for me- b****r

Throw a sickie man - this won't come around again for at least 18 months, maybe 2 years...

really wish i had the money to go to this... Love joe's books, both hillarious and very very usefull, i imagine he will be the same live... ah well,
hope you guys enjoy it! :)

:woot: Read this thread 3 minutes ago and have paid for my ticket already.

No idea how I'm going to get the time off work, or where I'm going to stay, but this is the chance of a lifetime :naughty:. I read "The Hotshoe Diaries" and I found it very inspiring, but I haven't managed to get any similar results myself yet. So, to see an actual demo from the master is the stuff of dreams for me.

I get the impression that this is purely a seminar, with no participation by the audience, is that right ? Presumably then, there's no need for me to pack my Speedlights !?

Looking forward to meeting some fellow TPers on the day, into the bargain .

Might prove tricky to get 200 people through for a practice session, I'd think - I got the impression that we can 'lurk' close-by while he sets stuff up...

:D Yes, I wasn't thinking very clearly there was I, Rob? It was this quote from the OP which threw me ...

"Joe teaches small, intimate workshops around the world for just a handful of people, but now you too will have a rare opportunity to learn from one of the most talented, engaging and creative photographers and educators working today, and you don't want to miss it."

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to it :naughty:.

I just copied / pasted from the Kelby training site ;)

This is a large group seminar, with demo's and discussion.

Joe runs 3 day workshops for hands on, you have to go through a portfolio review to get a place so that he knows you've got a good foundation before going forward.

That's me out then :D!

Anyway, I'll be quite happy with just the seminar. Besides, it gives me an excuse to go to London and pay silly prices for warm, flat, watery beer - great !!!

Conformation and ticket arrived last night... ooh-yah!

Had a moment of blind panic when the generic blurb described it as a 'Photoshop-seminar'...

But the dates and ticket confirm it to be a 'location-lighting seminar'

Joe McNally isn't mentioned anywhere though...

Did you get a paper ticket through the post then, Rob ?

I just got a .pdf file emailed to me to print off :|.

Anyway, I was looking at London hotel prices for July today - Jesus H Christ !!!! Virtually nothing for under 120GBP a night! What happened to those 70 quid a night Travel Lodge deals!? Bloody foreign tourists ... ;)

Luckily, the tickets are easily transferable, so I can always sell mine if it comes to it (although I hope it won't come to that).

[/POINTLESS_MOAN]

I got the PDF as well...saves postage and time, i guess...lol

It looks like I'll be staying at my Bro's in Greenhythe and commuting-in by train in the morning as well...
Might have to do the TP-binge-fest on Friday night afterwards instead...
The reason Mcnally isn't mentioned is probably in case of a no-show due to 'unforseen events' like ash-clouds maybe...?

Looked at this as well but not sure how much I'd benefit as its a huge group, up to 500:thinking:

You'll still see where the lights are positioned to acheive the various shots and what light-modifiers are used...what more do you want?

And it'll be a fun day out, all for £100 plus beer-and travel money...

Go on, do it.

With those of us on here, and the other non forum members I know who are going we could make an offensive move on the front row and own it... ;)

I'm a front row specialist - I figure if I'm paying for something I want the best possible view. Plus my eyesights carp!

haha, sounds like a good idea to me. We'll need to get there early to make our move. I have to be on the train at 6:05am. :'(

Rob- its the final day of my UG course- end of course derief etc, cant really miss it, I'm the course senior!

May well pop into londinium for a pint if theres a meet though

So, airline tickets are booked, hotel reserved and seminar ticket printed off :). Barring acts of God/terrorism, it's all looking good for two days in sunny London town .

And all for the price of another SB-900 (+ 10 years worth of batteries :D)! Still, it probably makes sense to learn to use the two that I've already got properly, instead of buying more and continuing to be 'in the dark' about lighting .

Airline? Sod that, I'm driving over and making a long weekend of it...can't be bothered with public transport in the UK outside Greater London...

Mind you, I'm two hours closer to Calais than you are in Hannover...

Well, I work for an airline in the same group as the one I'm flying with, so tickets cost very little and I don't own a car, so driving's not an option anyway ;). I'm having a couple of nights in a hotel near Hyde Park, so it's going to be a mini holiday for me :).

I'm also hoping that there's going to be a TP meet, either the day before or after the seminar, as I haven't met anyone from these forums yet and out here I don't even know any photographers :( (apart from a few pros, who are always too important to talk to an oik like me :D). I'm sure that we can discuss all that nearer the time, though ;).

... as it was his post in the Worldwide Photowalk thread that led me to this one.

Looks too good to miss ... see you there; or so you know who to avoid, this is me:

And I'm up for a post-seminar session ...
