Evening,

Just thought I would add a quick post re the game I covered last weekend

was covered to go down to Poole (360 mile each way) to cover a game for one local paper, agreed day rate (as editor wanted me to get paid for more than just a couple of pics with it being such a long trip) happy days

I was then asked by another editor of regionals to send some pics, wow, even better

I had the other papers so I could see I had images in three regionals

Just been sent the local paper in PDF form with the pages I am covered on, FRONT page, BACK page and two pics along with the report :D

Well done! Lets see the .pdf?

converted pdfs to jpegs

Editor has removed two sensitive news stories from the front page, actual paper isn;t blank

Good work Steven, and you were paid properly for doing it, that's how it should be done.

I received an email today from a local sports editor asking me if they could use my football photos on the odd occasion when their own photographer cant make it.

I would love to say yes but at what price do I put to the use of one maybe two shots every couple of weeks??? Really lost as to what to charge. Help required please Steven.

Great shots by the way.

Best off asking them for there standard rates, I was told this when I asked another member. they will have them

The editor told me when I spoke that there was a day rate and a per image rate but he wanted me to take the day rate as it was more profit for me

I would ask for standard rates, they will have them, this gives you an idea of whats on offer

I am having discussions for this week where no one wants to pay, only use with a credit, as its a semi final second leg and winners go to Wembley I won't do it free, so its me going off my own back this week which suites me fine

Thanks for the quick reply.

I had thought that would be the case. So they determine what they are going to pay per image. I have a web site set up so they can choose what image they want. This is far better than sending them 4-5 shots only to use, say, just one of them.

The sports editor said that he would credit me, of course but I would like to be paid AND credited thank you very much. We don't do it for the love....... wait a minute, yes we do...

Good luck with the second leg. They are defending champs two years running I believe.?

Will have to see about getting to the final myself. :naughty:

They are indeed

I find its either credit and free or no credit and paid, only had a couple of occasions (last weekend) being both

I was asked to submit 12 images for one paper on Sat evening for them to use two (which they did) and then all my others went online for the midweek editor to pick whatever as I was paid day rate, which they did so happy on that respect

I've found price per image starts at £10 depending on who you work for

Really good shot of the fans, interesting to see they've used a rear shot (I usually discard those), plus a shot of the equaliser without the ball. It's all about telling the story.

Thanks for putting these up as its interesting to see what sells to the papers.

some of those have been cropped slightly for use aswell, the regional's cropped them to and cropped parts of arms off etc which spoils them for me

I only kept the equalizer without ball as it shows emotion on faces, same with the rear cele shot, I discarded all of the others of backs for the same reason you do, but left the cele as it meant meant something

I find its either credit and free or no credit and paid, only had a couple of occasions (last weekend) being both

I have found credit to be of absoloutly 100% no use at all and on some occasions when the crop or print is bad its better to ahve no credit.
