What a beautiful city

Think I might drive over there tomorrow and photograph the Three Graces amongst other things

Pity it's full of bloody Scousers, though!

*Chains camera bag to self*

I was down there today!! Didn't take many shots....decided I was going to try out HDR, I might even post them if they've turned out alright lol!!

The view from Albert Docks is ruined with cranes at the moment though :(

Yep, I'm off work then

I'll definitely be there!

Are you going?

Yeah will probably be there for the 5th and 6th, have an event for a friend that i'm shooting on the Sunday so won't be there for the 7th.

The 6th is supposed to be the best day of the three, but I want to get the initial start as the start of the one in London looked quality :D

Mind you, if you're into industrial photography, cranes can be a good subject :)

There's a definite sense of anticipation for this here 'La Machine', isn't there?

I hope it lives up to the hype.......

Yeah, the one in London looked awesome, I definately would have gone along if I had known about it. This one is apparently going to be insane.

Hey you, I'm a Scouser, and chaining your camera bag to yourself won't be enough matey. You need some eyes in the back of your head too. And may be if you can find a way to disguise yourself as a job application they'll all steer clear of you and you'll be safe! Hahahaha

Try going up around Rodney Street and Hope Street etc. some great oportunities up that way. and it's proper Liverpool too. Possibly unique (or near enough anyway) in the UK.

The Albert Dock has been togged to death and we need to look to other parts of the city for interesting shots, and there are lots of places to go. In fact every direction from the Pier Head has its interest.

Just up from The Liver Buildings is the medieval streets of Liverpool and there is a great mix of old and new, derelict and perfect. It'll take you 5 minutes to get there from the Pier Head.

St Helens? You're not a Scouser! Unless you moved there to get away from the nutters in Norris Green! :D

Yes, I know Liverpool quite well.....

Seriously, the 'Pool is a wonderful place. So much history. Knocks Bolton into a cocked hat :'(

:'(

Yes I jumped ship about 20 years ago and live about a mile away from Knowsley Safari Park so not in deepest St. Helens. Still have a business there though so go there everyday. And the business is on Hardman Street so its in the Georgian bit of the City in what they call the Cultural Quarter now.

They can be indeed...however not whilst trying to photograph the Liver building!!

Very true :D

Have you ever been in the Liver Building? Absolutely fascinating! I worked in Liverpool for a few years a few years ago. Wasn't into photography at the time, though :(

But if you get a chance to see inside, take it! The same applies to the Cunard and the Port of Liverpool buildings, too :)

So you're kind of on the Prescot border, then?

Port of Liverpool building is the one to see if you get the chance. Obviously built in a time when the amount of money spent on it was of no significance

Yes

The Three Graces are quite magnificent buildings, but as you say there's so much more to see in Liverpool

And what about Liverpool 1 for worship of the great god mammon......

I hope we don't live to regret Liverpool 1. In fact, although I'm a great supporter of Liverpool, I was a little p***ed off when they named it Liverpool 1 because my bar is in Liverpool 1 and it ain't down there. So I feel a little like The Duke of Westminster has nicked my prestigious address.

Some suggestions for a tog's tour of Liverpool. Start at the Palm House in Sefton Park - closes at 4 PM. Drive to Faulkner Square which is the best complete Georgian Square in the North of England and has a nice set of gardens in the centre. Drive into the city and park at Mount Pleasant multi storey. Walk up Mount Pleasant to the Catholic Cathedral. Go to the Philharmonic Pub on Hope Street and take a picture of the urinals in the Gents. Carry on along Hope Street to the Anglican cathedral which is magnificent and you can go into the cemetery which is great. Come back along Rodney Street and turn left onto Hardman Street. Brings you to St Lukes Church (bombed out) at the top of Bold Street. Walk down Bold Street, along Church Street and find the Town Hall behind which is Exchange Flags, where there is a great little tribute to Nelson. Not many togs get there. Then you can go down Water Street to the Pier Head. Get some shots of the white building at the bottom of Water Street on the right. Then there's the three graces. The walk back to the car. I've done that before today and there's lots to capture.

I've only been to Bolton a few times, and my wife starts work in Bolton on 3rd September so I'm sort of hoping it's a nice place.

And he's a Macca lookalike!

I think you have the advantage over the Trafford Centre, with which of course Liverpool 1 is competing. The T Centre is a claustraphobic nightmare - I refuse to go there any more! Whereas 1 is open to the elements - much nicer. Room to breathe :)

Thanks, mate :)

I know it's a slight deviation from the subject, but have you been in the toilets in the Philharmonic recently? They are in terrible condition and look (and smell) like they never get cleaned.

The people running the place need to sort it out.

It's had a ton of money spent on it recently and it doesn't look half bad

There's a BIG new shopping centre opening soon within the precincts of the old Market Hall, so that should keep your missus quite happy ;)

Oh and there's a statue of the patron saint of Bolton - Fred Dibnah!

Back to the subject of photography

There's still lots of things like this all over the place in Liverpool.

Makes it a good place to take photos that are away from the usual stuff.

I've not been in them in a year. They used to be the standard to which all other urinals aspired. Forget that part of the tour then, shame.

Thats one of the things I tell people, that you can go out on any day and get a good photo from Liverpool. You don't need a plan you just need a camera.

What is that, exactly?

Not really sure, but it's down on the water front to the right (as you look out on the river) of the Liver Buildings. I take it is a building from the old docks, a ticket office or something like that.

Indeed :)

Bloody hell, mate, not been to Wirral for ages. What's good to shoot over there?

Yes, you are right. A while ago, I started a project to photograph every shop in Liverpool (I got a little side tracked with another project) and I was amazed by the variety of the buildings. and that's before you even tough the other architectural stuff in the City.

To record Liverpool would be a life times work.

Got you

Can you imagine Liverpool a century ago married with the technology we have now? I'd love to travel back in a time machine - that would be amazing!
