mobilevirgin you can't have been far from me, that was pretty much my vantage point.

Lets see the pics, then. There was a guy next to me shooting film. If that was you, then I'll give you a day to get them developed :)

Nope, I wasn't shooting film.

Was my first go at fireworks so was pretty fun.

Excellent - I've just spotted them on your flickr stream - you were a little down the hill from me - nice shot, that.

Thanks. It was so easy to overexpose that the fireworks would become a blurry overblown mess. Didn't have remote shutter release, so I placed a black card in front, released the shutter, waited, then removed the card. Considered the self timer option on the Nikon D40 but it is a PITA as it keeps reverting back to normal shooting mode straight after.

Was Nice too meet some of you guys.. :):)

Heres my attempt

First Attempt with Fireworks

All taken from Birkenhead side of the Mersey, over the river during the Celebration display of fireworks marking Liverpool's 800th Birthday

They are AWESOME! What a stunning foreground to have in-shot!

EDIT: Chickadee - pretty good aswell - both sets have some unique angles.

Wow there are some great shots in here. Havent been through mine yet :( but I dont think I have anything as good! Chickadee your shots are great from that angle, and it seems you had the angle to see the big fireworks past the ship! which I didnt :( ah well - was a good evening out :D

P.S Welcome to the forums Chickadee :)

Very cool sakura. Really different take on the whole thing. Also like yours Chickadee with the boat in. Didn't think that would work out, but I never knew about the barge :)

Ok Final Few of not so good ones.. thanks for comments chaps.. appreciated.

Oh well, if I keep practicing one day I may get shots as good as all those, mine are on flickr but I feel a little embarrassed after seeing everyone's amazing pictures on here :(

Glad that you enjoyed the show. All the 70+ Fantastic Fireworks team who worked on the show enjoyed doing it for everyone in Liverpool - the result of 9 months planning.

We are putting a dedicated website showing some of the best of our firers pictures in the next couple of days and hopefully these will give an idea of what it was like from a lot closer than the general public were able to get. These include shots and video taken from the barge in the river and from the top of the cathedral sites, Radio City tower and the Liver Building.

I was standing in the first waterfront firing site in front of the Liver Building and it looked and sounded amazing from there!

If anyone would be willing to allow us to show their pictures on the site or would like further details about the show then please do let me know.

Don't be - I had a look - they're fine - its just you were a long way away

Oh, and a  to chickadee - your photos are great

Well here is my first shot processed :p

I was listening to the countdown and hit the shutter on 1 expecting the sky to fill with fireworks, the starting was a bit more subtle though! and all the big ones off to the left of that shot :p

dont be so hard on yourself

for me it's all about fun :)

Thanks sakura.. I did enjoy the display (till I saw my pics!)

I did ask Liverpool City Council to delay the firework display till my new zoom lens arrived but I guess they decided to go ahead anyway!

Ok here are some of mine I have finally had chance to process.

#1 - Messing about waiting for the fireworks to start:

I particularly like #2 and #5. I think the ship fits in there nicely...

Excellent Set..

Love the colours in the last one.. Deffinately my favourite

well done

The more I look at them, the better I think the ship fits, shame I didn't think it at the time and so didn't take any pics in that direction :(

The second on stands out for me. Nice meeting you (was standing next to Jimmy L for the show).

I was great meeting everyone :) lots of new faces too, which is never good for me as I can never remeber real name :p I like the fact no one seems to have identical photos even though most of the ones across the river were taken not much more than 30 foot apart.

Another Good set.. lovely colours..

Heres some more of mine

Few more ive tried to rescue a bit

Excellent pictures so far. I like Sakura's as that is a view quite unlike anyone else's.

Here's some of mine. They all seemed to be underexposed. I'll have to keep remembering to ignore the LCD, they looked great on there.

This is what I had planned to do, have the 2 Cathedrals in the frame. They seemed too small though, as I was leaving a lot of space above for the big fireworks.

And now the changed view.

Thanks to everyone who posted about this event and to Pete for suggesting a good vantage point. The trip up from Stoke was well worth it to meet a few of the people on here (and to see a few fireworks of course !)

Fantastic pictures posted by everyone :thumbs:

I particularly like some of shots from around the cathedrals, No.3 in redhead17's set there is a cracker

Don't think I can offer much more than has already been seen, but here's one of the calm before the storm, showing the 'launch points' !

I think these two are my favourites of the night:
