Really just a question for Pete but I thought I make it public just in case anyone else is interested.

OK, Pete is the firework display still going ahead on Tuesday night and if so where would be a good place to take photos, as I hear it will be on city building and on the river.

Mark

As far as I know it is. The fireworks will be fired from the Metropolitan Cathedral, Anglican Cathedral and Liverpool's Pier Head so I will be on the Wirral. I am going to be here . I got this shot from there a few months back.

Thats at 24mm. So you will need 10mm if you want the entire set because the cathedrals are off to the right. My plan, assuming my 10D holds out, is to have 24-70 pointed at the Pier Head and 10mm to capture the entire scene with 2 bodies. Jimmy_Lemon expressed interest too. Obviously the more photographers there the more secure we will all feel. I will get there for 8:30 - 9pm hopefully.

Count me in if there's room. Presuming that I'm not freaking out about the 800 shoot..

I've taken pics from that position for a couple of Nov 5th's, and during those nights at least, there is a healthy number of people watching from there without being too busy. No problems at all. It could be a bigger crowd though, so it may pay to get there early. ;) I always got there early anyway to choose the spot I wanted.

I'm unsure where I'm going to be taking pics from, as I haven't read exactly what the plans are. I think if you want the Pier Head then the only option will be across the river because of the building work. If one is markedly bigger than the others, then I may go for that.

I got this a couple of years ago from that point looking at the Pier Head display.

Hopefully the weather will be a bit better than that night.

Here's another of the Catholic Cathedral from a New Year display.

That pic's a bit soft I know, but it shows the possibility of getting a bit closer. and the possible problems with wind and the smoke.

I may be wrong, but trying to get all the displays in the one frame could make each display look very small. Good for recording history, but maybe not good imagewise. ;)

Thinking about it, I may go for the Anglican Cathedral, as I missed the big display on the Cathedral a few years ago. :)

*If* they use fireworks as huge as the ones in my shot then you're going to need wide angle and everything will look tiny. Thats just me wanting to get everything in. But hopefully I'll be using a 2nd body for that and another for closer shots. Its going to be fast paced for sure.

I've just spoken to my mate who works for a company sorting out the sites, and he said the fireworks were scaled back massively when people who owned buildings planned for displays suddenly wanted money for permission to put the fireworks on their buildings, thinking that there were wads of cash floating about for the celebrations.

Obviously there was not that much money, as it is now limited to a few sites.

I would name and shame the money grabbing b******* if I were the council. So much for community spirit.

What could have been spectacular with a lot of the city going off, may now be just very very good. ;)

Yeah it was meant to be 8 sites. Do you know who's doing the fireworks out of interest? I worked with the company who did the Tate fireworks and other large displays around Liverpool recently but I haven't heard from them for these.

I don't know the name of the people doing the displays, but my friend said it was someone who's been doing displays around the city for a couple of years.

Hmm weird. I expected to hear from them after doing the Tate shoot and them highly praising my work AND being cheaper than the competition :D

Pretty sure I will be there for the fireworks at least :) You got any link to other event information for that day Pete? Also think I might have talked my dad and Macel into coming :D

Count me in, I'l be there. I was a bit unsure to either go for pacific road or my favourite 'skyline' place by the ferry terminal. I'll be getting the train over from the town side as I can't be bothered trying to find parking over there. If anyone wants to meet in town then go over together post here.

I'm aiming for 8:30pm but I'm not 100% sure as my 800 shoot finishes at 8pm unless I get 100 people before then, drop my sister off and get tea. But if everyone else meets there at around 8:30pm they should get a good place before the crowds arrive. Save a space big enough for 2 tripods please ;)

Even if I wanted to go, and I guess I wouldn't mind, I can't ... "Damn my day-job... damn it all the way to Hades..."

Hey im going down as well would not miss it so might see you all there. :-)

Cool, would be nice to meet another local :) I'll probably be wearing the traditional monkey hat so look for that. I'm sure others will be wearing their TP branding too :)

I'll have to see what time I finish work so it will be a VERY last minute decision for me

Bit unsure as to whether I'm going to make it over to the 'other' side of the river, I might have some camera work (video) and be filming at the Anglican. Will post in here anyway :P.

Really hoping to make this myself too, will probably be 3 or 4 of us. Shame we cant get an area cordoned off for us all !

As Jimmy *almost* said :D I'll be there with him...and I'll be the 6'4 fat one with a TP beanie on :D

I did get called a fish in a staff newsletter once.

Macrel.

Weather is good, fingers crossed. I'll be there from 8 ish, and I'll be the 6'2 fat one with a baseball cap and camouflage jacket on .... also answer to the name of Rob ;)

Okay, leaving Stoke in a bit so hopefully we'll see a few of you there, will be myself, the girlfriend, 3 camera's and our daughters (& maybe the girlfriends young son too) so be sure to say hello if you see us

Was good to meet you all, macker, Hawker, Tsukiyomi :).
Had a thoroughly jolly evening, and thanks to Mr Lemon and Mr Lemon Snr for the lift! :)

Hope it was worth the drive up for you macker. I believe your daughter got a corker of a shot? (So Jimmy Lemon was telling me).

Will share some of mine on here (if theyre good enough :embarrassed: ) when I get them processed.

Indeed, was good to meet people and put faces to the names :)

Anyway, here are my three best (out of the many I took, most of which only deserve deletion)

Hmmm, maybe I should have joined you guys across the Mersey, certainly seems impressive. I ended up at the Anglican cathedral. :bang:

Nice pics Hawker. :)

After the display started, I knew I was in the wrong place. :( I chose to go beside the Customs and Excise building to get pics of the two Cathedrals. After the 1st couple of shots I knew that two Cathedrals wasn't going to work, as they were too small in the frame. After a dozen or so pics , I knew that I had chosen the wrong Cathedral, as the Anglican display was pretty dull compared to the Catholic Cathedral, which had fireworks flying in all directions. I didn't have a good view though. To my left I could see the fireworks on the river getting some big explosions, looked better than what I had in front of me.

More often than not, you know you're in the wrong place when you're the only chap there with a camera. :bonk:

I'll pop a pic or 2 on later, as I'm catching up on the footy. ;)

Here a couple of mine. We were at the Anglican Cathedral. Not the best place - there was more going on at the Pier Head, but not bad.
