Livedrive Restore Issues

Hi All,
Not sure if anyone uses Livedrive Backup but I am having a problem hopefully someone can help with. All my pics are backed up and I need to retieive them from their servers back to my new machine. Every time I try to do this I get a connection error so I emailed Livedrive and got the following response (after 5 days!!)

"For the files where you are getting this error when you are attempting to restore files you will need to verify the file through the web portal and attempt to restore it using a web browser."

Now that makes no sense to me. I use their Restore software and it doesn't give me an option to verify the files. Can anyone point me in the right direction or had a similar experience?

Can you copy the files into the briefcase area? If you can you can get at them via ftp which might be easier than their useless web portal.

Try downloading one or more of the files via the web portal or see if you can download an entire folder at once from there.

I don't have the Briefcase option unfortunately. It seems I can download individual files from the portal but if I try and download a file it says I must use the Restore software. When I use this it throws up the error message. I have 100gb of files to restore after my laptop was stolen and doing this one file at time would be a nightmare :(
 
Meant to say if I try and download a folder, not a file, sorry...
 
I think they have a twitter and facebook presence so I'd ask them on there what to do. A public problem is often resolved much faster.

I'd probably try installing the recovery software on another machine and see if that is any better.
 
Hmm after uninstalling and reinstalling twice it seems I am getting somewhere. Folders seems to be downloading, albeit quite slowly. Problem solved, fingers crossed :)

No problem. I know how stressful it is to have a computer die and have the restore not work well! I had issues with idrive being dead slow to restore when my last computer died a total death. Got everything back... eventually.
 
The most stressful thing was the thought of trying to get a response from Livedrive! They're customer service is awful. When my laptop was stolen I was worried that the thieves may have been able to maliciously wipe my account so I asked livedrive to suspend it. They took 8 days to respond.
Might have to look at another backup provider. Are Idrive any good?
 
That's shockingly poor CS!

I'd definitely make a mention of it on their FB page...

Idrive are ok. They can take a while to respond to report issues but usually it is within 48 hours.

Someone mentioned a good provider on here. Crashplan? You never find out whether they're any good until you have the disaster. Then it is often too late. There are a lot of poor back up providers.

I also double backup photos. Idrive has a copy of them and I also periodically upload them to smugmug.
