I dont think "Live View" is much of a benefit to a D-SLR, looking through the viewfinder, you are "in the scene" as it were, composition,DOF ect are easier to check, where as live view on a bright day, No chance. What do you think?

I miss it - and, TBH, was very surprised that my 400D doesn't have it. It's so useful if you need to shoot with the camera above your head - e.g. to see over the heads of crowds.

I find Live View on my 450d invaluable for getting focus on stars for starfield and satellite shots. The 10x zoom on the display means I can get the stars focused as points really easily. I've also used it a couple of times to get "over" objects. I guess I'm probably more use to a live view coming from a bridge camera.

Waste of time and don`t use it.

IMHO.

I think it's safe to say it depends 100% on what type of photography you do the most. As said live view has its place, maybe not for the motorsports photographer though.

i tried it (once) when i got the D300 just to see what its like, and dont think ill use it again, unless i cant physically see throught the viewfinder.

Maybe one day it will come in handy, but i wouldnt not buy a camera because it didnt have it.

I've used it a lot when shooting tethered, live preview on the pc and control over all the settings and focusing - it's great

Considering my camera is upto 60' away from me when I'm taking photos, I couldn't live without it.

Waste of time

Cameras will always have functions one person use, and another will not, doesn't make that function a waste of time.

I'm more likely to use it than the print button on the 40D!

Superb for macro work.:)

I've just started to some close up stuff, and it's real handy for focussing when you use the x5 & x10 facility.

If you want to shoot tethered, Canon's live view enables you to view the live image on the PC sceen, which again helps manual focus.

I don't use live view currently, but I can see it has it's uses.

i use it for shots above my head, candid shots so folks don't think they're being snapped, macro work, wildlife stuff where movement would give me away.....

at the end of the day, you don't need to use it if you don't want to, but it's doing no harm being an option and it may come in handy for you at some time.

I like it and regularly use it - on long telephoto shots and on macro shots too. The 10x zoom on the viewfinder makes for very effective focussing.

Also, and possibly interestingly to some... I remember reading a review on (I think) DP Review, when it first appeared, the writer said that the Live View on the Olympus E-510 was something of a waste and would hardly ever be used... 'gimmicky' I seem to recall was the description used. Seems like Canikon have recently caught on then eh and it's no longer gimicky! :):)

Ho hum...

Another vote for that.

I had Live View on my Sony DSC-R1, where the screen tilted. I found this very useful for taking low shots as I am unable to kneel due to bad knees, so was able to look down onto the screen.
I don't have it on my Nikon D80, so there will not be many low shots.
