I always lived fast as a young 'un, with a belief for various reasons that there would be no getting older for me.
Now I am 57, and no sign yet of me dropping dead despite my best attempts.
No sign of me prospering either.

Think I must try harder one way or the other..

Closing in on 60.

Feeling 25

Not at all prosperous.

Fast days behind me.

No idea how I'm still alive.

Got lucky I guess.

That sums it up. Many of my friends didn't, and I've no idea why I did.
I also got lucky with my wife and then we got really lucky with our kids. Again, no idea why.

Didn't get lucky with your kids.
I suspect they got lucky with their parentage. (y)

As each successive "landmark" birthday passed, I used to wonder how the f### I'd survived that long! Far more sedate these days but still wonder the same way!

Lived fast but failed to die young. Never a chance of leaving a good looking corpse...

well, it would be nice to feel that we were doing something right, but there has to be an element of luck, or maybe someone up there took pity on my mum so gave her some decent grandchildren..!

Never a chance of leaving a good looking corpse...
Nod. I've always thought your avatar had to bear some resemblance to the real you, so have to disagree with your statement..

Hmmm... About time I reverted to a selfie as my avatar!!!

:) Personally, it's all moot if you're happy with things as it is.

+1 on pretty much everything said above.

And after a recent minor scare I'm firmly in the "Every Day Above Ground is a Good Day" camp.

As living fast and dying young may cause more than a little angst for others I'll go for live long and prosper.

i sometimes think what living fast really means
somebody who participates in extreme sports could be considered as " living fast ", somebody who enjoys the company of loose women and drinks copious amounts of alcohol whilst out on the town could also be considered as " living fast " which are completely different from each other

when i think of my youth i would consider some of the things i got up to as living fast but with no intentions of dying young and with no alcohol involved whatsoever but we naturally slow down as we age

most people reaching the age of 50+ will answer live long and prosper because they have already been there n done it so to speak but the younger generation will have a different point of view

my main intention of the day is to keep breathing i'l worry about the rest as it comes along :)

Over 50 and certainly not ready for pipe and slippers, just yet
(although I do own both :D )

I don't have any regrets, I've had people tell me I'm an idiot at some of the things I did when I was younger, the reason being that
I could die, my answer was always that I could die crossing a road or as a friend did eating a banana and choking, had some great times,
did a lot of fun things and yes I am a lot older and have everything I want in life, with no debts to worry about and reasonably good health,
what more can I ask

After Mum died, Dad had all sorts of plans for holidays that he wanted to take and things he wanted to do and that he hadn't been on/done since they would have been purely for him. Unfortunately, he was diagnosed with and taken by lung cancer before he had a chance to do any of them. As a tribute and a permanent reminder, I had a couple of words of Horace's pushed into my arm. Within a couple of years of that, I was myself given 3-6 months to live had I not gone under the knife - fortunately, the op was (AFAIK) completely successful and I'm still around 3 years later!

Because the ones who vote to Live fast and die young are just not being completely honest.... If I am honest......we want both, we want to live fast and have all the experiences fast living brings and then settle down to a long lustrous old age and die in peace pain free in our sleep preferably with those around us who we love dearly and whom we love, saying our goodbye with dignity and a feeling that we have run the race well.

And ideally not in the car we're driving at the time! ;)

I have done crazy s***, have metal in me... would I change it? No. One day it will happen, all I hope is Samelia (3 yr twins) grow up and are successful - want to see that..

"Live for something or die for nothing" Ideally said while holding a re-curve bow at full tension with arrow pointing at subjects eyeball.(Although it might have been "Live for nothing or die for something")
