I have just took delivery of a Gitup Git 2 action camera. I had never heard of these until a couple of days ago. At £105 what an amazing bit of kit these are, particularly the image stabilisation feature. I am only just getting to know the in's and out's of it at the moment and no doubt something bad will crop up. It is compatible with all Gopro accessories as well. Can't wait to get started with it. I know of one member who has the Git 1 on here, I think he mostly uses it as a dash cam though. Anyone else got one?

I got a Xiaomi Yi to play with. So far I've hacked it to take photos in Raw, automated timelapse, added a video knee and upped the bitrate to 35 Mbps, added an FTP server and telnet server for remote viewing and control and got it to write an XML sidecar with all settings. Not for everyone, but incredibly useful for my use case.

Hi Neil, I've been looking into these! Please share some videos/photos when you have chance so that we can see some results! I am especially intrigued with the image stabilisation like you said.
I am just getting into videography so would love to see the ouput of this little camera!

It could take a while before I can come up with anything good enough to be of interest on here.;) Meanwhile this is a full review if you've not already seen it. http://pevly.com/gitup-git2-review/ If you have any questions fire away.

I do a lot of video recording with my cameras and I use the following, DSLR , Compact , Phone. But I would like something the size of a Canon S120 for reasonable quality and pocketability. Just had a look at the Gitup Git2, and not sure if I would like to use one.

To be honest my G16 is absolutely FANTASTIC for video. The stabilisation in it is just unbelievable. It's like having a built in gyro! REALLY a great option for photo and video and second-hand you could find it at a REASONABLE price.

The G16 is a little chunky though :)

How are these capturing footage of people? Does it distort them badly with the field of view it captures things? Thanks.

A quick search on youtube will give you the answer, lots of video's on there.

But, how would you kow which ones on Youtube have been taken with this camera? - Excuse my simpletoness - but I have just read what you have done to yours and I don't even understand what you have written....So far I've hacked it to take photos in Raw, automated timelapse, added a video knee and upped the bitrate to 35 Mbps, added an FTP server and telnet server for remote viewing and control and got it to write an XML sidecar with all settings.

The bit in bold - could you translate it that into English for me please...what is an FTP or a TEINET and an XML? In words that even I would understand (and bare in mind, I have given up trying to learn how to download music a few years ago - I gave my iPod away because I couldn't work out how to use it - I never managed to get a single song on it).

I am starting to get some videos done, using my compact (Nikon P7800) but would like to do better - this technology and jargon seems way beyond me though.

Looks very similar to my SJ7000 with wifi I've just bout for £33

FTP = File Transfer Protocol, Telnet is an old way of running programmes on remote computers. So basically, from my phone/tablet/PC I can transfer all the image and video files it creates and control all it's functionality including setting up advanced scripts which alter exposure over time. XML is a machine readable file that contains parameters - so I know what every setting on the camera was for each file - which can be useful for automating any further processing.

A camera knee is a bodge.

Your DSLR can probably capture in a single exposure 12 stops of light if shooting in RAW (a stop is a doubling of light, so this is a ratio of 4096:1 from the brightest level to lowest level it can accurately record, anything above or below these levels will be recorded as either black or white). HD Video, as specified (BT.709) can do about 6 stops (64:1). So camera manufacturers bodge the highlights using a device known as a knee to keep details in the highlights (albeit at the wrong relative levels).

Blimey - thank you.
Where can I go to learn some of this modern techy stuff (I have asked in the phone shop with help on using my phone, they just said they didn't do any teaching and to just go and play......so I have put it in the drawer and got my Nokia 3100 back out, because I know how to use that).

I don't seem to get anywhere trying to do a google search either - it just takes you sales websites, no actual teaching ones. That is why I have asked for help in my topic "starting out"...but I am starting from a very basic and simplistic point. I didn't know the video was any different to the stills capture from the same body. I just turn the knob to video and start shooting! I want to learn how to improve, but have no idea where to go to find out anything. I take my hat off to anyone who can understand all this technology and make things talk to each other. I fail miserably, but then I have nobody I can ask. hence asking on here - and probably sounding stupid, I now stupid, I just have never had much dealings with electrictrickery.
