Lindsay's 2022 Second 52 attempt - Week 39 ( Depict A Song)

Lovely, I love pens (get it from my dad). Is that a Parker duofold I see there?
Thanks, me too - it's a Conklin Duragraph. I have a small collection and buy the odd new one from Cult Pens

Looks very similar to a Duofold. I am now going to have a browse of the link (there goes some more money).

I like the way the overhead light has warmed up the "amber" pen and the gold on the ink labels while the daylight from behind has helped the blue ink.

Great content and well captured but personally see it a bit tight cropped all around.
Yes indeed it is, necessarily to avoid distracting objects around the edge of the desk - I didn’t have time to set it up as well as I’d like. So you make a perfectly valid observation and I agree, it probably would look better with more space around

Blimey, haven't seen a proper ink bottle for donkeys years. I think I used to use "Quink" back in the day (couldn't afford the Parker stuff ), and there's nothing quite like using a proper, quality fountain pen (not one of the cheap ones that leaves ink all over your hands!). Nice shot.

Nice take on the theme.
I like the leather desk top - fits in with the objects.

Nice ink and tools thereof. I'd make a right mess with that lol.

I am a sucker for pens too ha ha! I also have a bit of a collection including one or two from Cult Pens, but no Conklins. I've never tried Diamine inks.

Back to the image... nice warm tones - your pen matches your desk nicely :) I think the Parker ink is a little ugly compared to the Diamine bottles and your beautiful pen. Years ago Parker did a series of ink in prettier bottles and it was also a beautiful colour - I can't remember the name of it, but I have kept my bottle with the dregs in. I wish they still made it.

I'm very envious.. you can probably write beautifully. My handwriting is atrocious!
I agree that it seems tightly cropped but can understand your explanation.

and another catch-up: week 6 "Alley/Alleyways". My original idea was to try to get a shot of a bowling alley, but the local Holleywood Bowl turned out to be a noisy and thoroughly unpleasant place, with hoprrible lack of lighting and I couldn't bring muyself to attract attention in there with so many kids around. So I chose a rather skanky alley in Wellingborough instead. Spot the difference!

IMO, that's the best thing to do with a D200! Interesting results from it now.

Liking the different take on the alley theme too.

I like your IR shots, especially the first, which has real atmosphere for me.

It was fun getting the D200 out again for some IR, and a re-learning experience editing them - I downloaded some Actions and Profiles for Photoshop which made it much easier than the last time!

For some reason the first pic is not loading for me - I've had that with a couple of threads today. I really like your chosen snapper's choice. The IR almost makes it look like the tree is covered in frost. Do you have to process it to get these lovely colours or is this how it comes out with the sensor?

I can imagine a bowling alley could prove tricky. I think Skanky Ali might make a good rapper's name :D I like the different viewpoint, and we can still see the alley leading off so our eye works through the frame nicely.

I like both images Lindsay. I think that you went with the right choice for the infrared image and the alley may be skanky but your composition is right on target.

Great idea for a rapper name! Thanks for the feedback. Yes, PP is required with the 590nm IR, to basically reverse the blue and red but also some tweaks in Hue and Saturation. I downloaded some Actions for PS to make life easier, the last time I did it I spent ages working it out but eventually created an equivalent action in Affinity only to lose it somehow.

Thanks very much

Keep on going Lindsay!

Receptacle was a great idea and I've taken lots of photos of our postbox but would never have thought to use it for a theme.

Really like the inks too! I've been using Oxblood for a while now but I only hand write when I'm taking notes at work and my handwriting is pretty terrible.

Nice shots the IR one is more interesting for me, possibly because I don’t see too many IR shots.
The alley shot is nice as the alley subtly weaves its way into the distance.

I like the first of the IR pics and I really like the angle and use of dof on the alley shot.

I need to catch up on Heavy, Light and Damp, and ICM, but I had the opportunity to cover the latest subject today whilst testing my new beat, the D850. What a fantastic piece of kit. Here is "Through a Window" (sort-of, as it's really a panel in a rusty railing around a derelict building site):

Nice shot. Love the patina on the rusty ironwork. A but too tightly cropped for me?

Nice shot
i found a derelict house with a nice view of a wind turbine through one of the remaining windows but couldn’t get the right angle
had to make do with the derelict factory

Maybe the crop is excessive - I had the idea in mind to use the frame of the ironwork, but it's just up the road so I might go back and get a wider view of the railings, although on reflection, they are rather boringly straight up and down. So a wider image probably tells the broader tale of urban decay etc

The pattern of the ironwork is certainly different and that perhaps help make the shot. Like it.

I like that a lot. Love the rusty ironwork with the oof background and I rather like the the tight crop.

The background out of focus level is just right for me with some nice colour and texture in the ironwork.

Yep - that's a belter :)

Thanks guys - and I love the new D850 I used for this

I particularly like the "crack" in the "glass" in the diamond on the left side!

A new way of appreciating spiders webs I think!

Nice image, plenty of detail. I'd agree about it being a bit too cropped, but the rest of it is really nice.

That fits the bill nicely. I like the tight crop because it does make it feel like you are looking our of the window, and the depth of field works well.
