I have a business 'info@...' email address (nothing to do with photography) that attracts the usual share of scam/phishing emails with dangerous links and attachments, and today I received a couple of emails that might just catch some of the forum members out, so thought I'd post a warning.

I had two different emails purporting to be from a photographer (both with a UK email address) with the usual 'lead in' hook text (one mentioned "here are some photos from the corporate event" - it's a good job I don't go to corporate events isn't it! :D ) together with "here's a link to your photographs" and a link that I'd bet a pound to a penny would lead to some sort of malware, fishing site or ransom software! Needless to say they went in the report as spam/block sender bin unclicked!

I imagine these emails (and variations of them) will do the rounds for a while until the message gets out about them and the people behind them switch to another ploy! So be careful if you receive an email apparently from a photographer, and check it's 100% genuine before clicking any links. (y)

If I ever get an Email from someone I don`t know, I Never open it I just delete it.
Not really an option with a business general enquiries email address.

I don't use a preview pane just the usual list of emails and senders. If in doubt I will delete but will also on occasions select the suspicious item and print without opening. Some make interesting reading!

Does that actually achieve anything, other than waste paper, ink, energy, and time? Genuine question.

For me yes. On a couple of occasions I have found important and genuine emails that I might otherwise have deleted. I only print if I have doubts, so that's one in a hundred or so, which is no big deal.
Life would be made easier if some suppliers or unknown correspondents would put meaningful information in the title bar.

I use an old email program from Win 3.1 days which doesn't understand html and just displays the text and no graphics etc. I don't use any form of web based emails, so I have no problems with Microsoft helpfully running embedded scripts to improve/simplify my viewing experience.

Doesn't printing the email involve opening it, even if the computer opens it without showing you the results?

That was my point. Printing it without looking at it on screen isn't the same as not opening it, and it doesn't make you safer.

Just prevent your email client from automatically downloading images.
Then you can safely read the email in your preview. Attachments will only open if you click to open them.
