Folks

I'm currently looking into getting a lightweight tripod, having just sold my old heavy duty slik model I need to replace it with something smaller and less bulky. It doesn't need support huge weight as I only use a 35mm prime lens on a d600 body, I briefly looked over some Manfrotto tripods at a local electrical supermarket but they seemed kinda flimsy!

Any suggestions welcomed, looking to spend around £150

Manfrotto 055CXPRO4 does the job for me. Of course the type of head you use can make a big difference to total weight.

Thanks, that kinda looks like the sort of thing I'm after. I do have a vanguard ball head top I could use but unsure of compatability.

I'm hoping to find something that will fit inside a rucksack as unless I'm using public transport I either walk or bike everywhere!! Will check this out along with a few others on my next trip to Norfolk/Warehouse express!!

Look at the Sirui models - very reasonably priced and very compact. Mine will fit inside a Retrospective 7.

Note, WEX don't stock Sirui as far as I'm aware.

It's about 67cm's with a Manfrotto 498RC2 head if that helps.

Have a look at the XCSOURCE Q-666C on Amazon. Suspect it comes out of the same factory as 3leggedthing. I too wanted a rucksack sized tripod for the same reasons as you and this does the job for me.

Quite happy with the Slik Pro 714 carbon purchased here from the forums couple of years back

manfrotto carbons are nice as are the 3 legged things which some of their range really pack down small if your looking to put it in a backpack but as most things photography if you want solid and small and light the prices do ramp up exponentially, vanguard do some nice tripods too now from what I seen in mifsuds last weekend and would march your head your using if you want to keep them the same

Velbon ultra rexi L goes everywhere with me. Small, lightweight, 'sturdy enough', and also tall enough for me being 6'4". Ok so there are sturdier out there but it's s great all rounder IMO.
