hi all,
i have lightroom 3 on my laptop thats running windows vista,
im trying to put it on my wifes laptop thats running windows 7 but everytime i get to the end of installing a message comes up

windown installer
this installation package could not be
opened. verify that the package exists and
that you can access it, or contact the
application vendor to verify that this is a
valid windows installer package

whats going on,it runs and installed fine on my laptop :shrug::shrug:
do i need to turn something off in window 7 ???

has anyone else had this happen ???

I installed L3 onto W7 without any problems did not need to 'turn anything off' etc
 
iv only got it on disc,i went halfs with my brother as i couldnt afford it on my own:'( and he lives in wales
 
hmmm - you want to install a copy of Lightroom on your machine and your wifes, yet you've "gone halfs with your brother"... that's three installations as I see it...

So - you're clearly trying to breach the terms of your Licence ???

I suggest you save up and buy your own copy, which will be fine to use on your machine and your wifes.

I also suggest that anyone tempted to post in this thread familiarise themselves with the appropriate section of the TP rules before doing so...

iv done nothing worng,your telling me everyone who has a laptop and a desktop buys 2 copys of the same software ???? :thinking::thinking::thinking:
i work for a living and dont hack or steal !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
if i have a real copy of the software i should be able to put it on all MY pc`s!

so how many people on here buy 1 for each computer thay have then ????????

I only have two main devices that I'd want stuff on, a laptop and a desktop, and quite often EULAs tend to cover such usage.

They don't tend to cover the whole family and all their computers though.
 
Simple answer. Just call the Adobe helpline and they will sort the issue out for you - if all is legit they will advise you on the technical issue you have. They are very helpful.

It's not for you personal use, you and your brother have it which as the other posters have tried to tell is breaking the terms of the license. You can have it activated on 2 of YOUR OWN pcs. So as you are breaching copyright already you might as well have hacked it as far as the law stands.
Note I am not encouraging that!
 
So you only need one copy of Windows or Office for your whole extended family?
I'm aware that Mac OS has family packs allowing several installs, but not many other products.

Me actually, but I shop clever. For photoshop (and being a registered student) I bought a very early copy of photoshop then bought the student upgrade at a very cheap price.
I bought lightroom V1, upgrade to V2 and V3. It was about £75 for the upgrade price which is very reasonable considering how much I use it.
 
As to the original problem, I'd suggest that you're either trying to run a 64 version on a 32 bit OS, or you haven't got the necessary permissions to install the software. Have you admin rights? Did you right click and try run as admin?
 
Lightroom doesn't have a separate 32/64 bit its all on the disc. I have mine installed on both my 32 bit laptop and 64 bit desktop operating systems.

i dont think you need 1 each, i believe (at least last i read) lightroom could be installed on 1 desktop and 1 laptop at the same time for non-simultanious usage.

but otherwise if the EULA says youre licenced for 1 copy, thats all youre entitled to.

You can run one copy at work and one at home on desktop or laptop pc's (or macs), but only one at a time.
 
As mentioned upgrade is the way to go. You just need to provide the serial number of an earlier version, SO, it's always worth keeping an eye out for someone selling an early version for little money such as:

I did this with my photoshop. Bought an early version eligible for upgrade for under £30, then bought the upgrade saving hundreds of pounds.
 
Oh, and if buying from Adobe shop - them shipping the product to you is cheaper than the download price - Go figure that one out!
