Edit My Images
Yes
I'm away for a week in the Lakes and looking to take lots of photos. Unfortunately I've forgotten to pack my portable HD which contains my Lightroom catalogue and all the files. I want to edit some of the photos but not sure how I would get round that without the catalogue.

Can I create a temp Lightroom catalogue and merge it when I get home? I have enough space on the internal ssd to do that. As an alternative I still have aperture on my Mac so could use that at a squeeze but it would mean re-editing when I get home.

Never done it but this may be of some help.

I'd just use a new catalogue and make sure I write all changes to XMP. Later at homejust import the files into the old catalogue and the changes / edits would be there.

Just create new catalog and when you’re home open up the main one and select ‘import from catalog’ - Very easy, and will retain all edits etc.

Yes you can create a new catalogue and then merge them when you return just drag it in to your main one

This is how I do it!

I create a new catalog on my laptop for each trip, then import to my main catalog on my iMac when I get home.

Thanks everybody, created a new catalogue yesterday and will import to those while away. When merging catalogues when I'm home will the images be transferred automatically to my hard drive?

Good question,I don’t think so.you may need to send that catalogue and the originals to your ext HD

It depends what settlings you select...

I prefer to import in place, then move them manually to my usual folder structure within Lightroom.

I currently move the files from the SD Card to a folder structure on my portable hard drive then import them in to lightroom, leaving them in place.

yes so when you merge the 2 LR catologues it will be looking for your drive on the laptop so you need to move that new catologue from holiday and the originals onto the ext drive im thinkingthen merge them
