Well tried out LR3 and intuitive it is not!
Having been used to CS5 and Elements 10 it doesn't instantly work for me ... seems to want to take a pic from my drive and put it somewhere else on my drive ... can't just open a file and edit ... or is it me

It's just you. :-)
You need to see a few tutorials to see how to get the best out of it. I was the same until i bought Scott Kelby's book and everything fell into place. Now I use LR3 for almost all my pp.

No it's not just you, LR isn't really designed for editing the odd picture here and there, it's really designed to import all your images and catlogue them as well as the editing side of things.

Lightroom does feel a bit odd at first, but once you get into it you'll wonder how you ever managed without it.

When I first started with it I was trying to edit individual images, and it wasn't until I loaded all 10k into the catalogue that I realised how it functions, and how best to use it.

I had better get looking on youtube for some guidance videos.

I'm the same as you gramps. I've downloaded the trial and me & lightroom just dont get on!

I just cant get used to it being so different.

Erm - no. I often just import a few pics off my cf card.

When you do the import and it's already in the place you want, at the top of the import module is options for Copy, Move or Add. If you choose Add, it adds it to the system without taking a copy, i.e references it from that location.

I'd recommend signing up to Lynda.com for a month or two and filling your boots, there are loads of fantastic tutorials and courses covering all kinds of software, and photography itself.

Useful, ta :)

Photoshops quicker then.

Loads of vids on YouTube. That's what I have been doing during lunch at work.

Once you get used to it you might.... Like it...

Gramps I was exactly like you, I did buy the Scott Kelby book, but to be honest I have hardly used it. It is a great book but I preferred the lynda tutorials as well as you tube and adobe. My book is just gathering dust, I would advise the resources I have mentioned first and if that does not work then get the book.

Cheers

Mani

Give it time. For me, LR has been THE programme that's transformed my photo editing. I love it and simply couldn't be without it nowadays.
