I am shooting with a 5d, in raw, with a custom white balance set to 5200k.

When I import to lightroom, the white balance displayed is out a smidgin at 4950k.

I have no import settings selected, so I am a little baffled, has anyone come accross this before?

is it something to do with srgb vs adobeRGB its a setting on the camera? just a guess

Aha... Welcome to how Adobe calculates WB.

Adobes method of calculating WB is to use the EXIF value "WB RGGB Levels As Shot" to calculate the white balance. This is because different sensors respond differently to light and you have to correct R, G and B to get the correct WB. If it is only captured as a single number, you have no way of knowing how to set the ratios of R:G and G:B to get the correct colour balance.

For example, one picture I have has "WB RGGB Levels As Shot" as: 2217 1024 1024 1736

This means it multiplies every R value by 2217/1024 = 2.16 to get the displayed R value and it multiplies each B value by 1736/1024 = 1.695 to get the displayed B value. G is left alone.

Capturing that into a single number (which will be different across makes and models) is impossible. That's why you have a temperature and tint setting for WB in LR.

I mainly shoot at 5200k with my D700 for daylight shots and the "as shot" WB figure in LR is shown as 5000k.

Another think is that I normally leave the "tint" setting on zero on the in camera settings but LR seems to set a different tint setting (eg -6).

I thought it might be a cae of the camera and lightroom displaying the same thing in their own different ways, as everything looks right to me. But I thought I was going mad for a bit!
