So at the moment I have 11184 RAWs loaded into lightroom and that is my entire collection.

I really do need to just say bye bye to alot of it though.

Yeah i bet its a killer for lightroom to deal with as well, my Dad has some 7000+ pics in his and he dumped lightroom in the end cos it just could'nt handle the amount and size of pics right. Even my machine seems to struggle with a few thousand pics.

Mine really struggles with it. The only way to deal with it is to organise them into subfolders and make sure lightroom starts up in one of those folders rather than your entire collection.

yeah...it makes my hdd squeal when it starts up. RSP doesn't do that!

Nah i have pics in sub folders as did my Dad and it still chugs and we are not running slow PC's either! Just can't use it like that so will stick with CS3

I admit that RSP has blazing speed but at the cost at been limited to what you can do.

my AMD 4400+ isnt really showing with lightroom but I bet MacPro users are getting instant responses from Lightroom.

I found the speed was a lot better if I told it to create previews on import and then created the 1:1 previews after the import. This really cuts down on the processing time re-creating the previews all the time when you switch between modules and photos.

hmm...might have to try that. thanks for the tip
also setting it to yor screen size helps too...! mine was set on 1440 rather than 1280...much quicker now ;)

I run a dual core Intel E6600 overclocked to 3ghz so shouldn't really have speed issues, you shouldn't have to have quad core to get a bit of software to run fast.

Its not about core speed. Its the way it is processed through memory. Hense why the Macs will love it.

i have 2gb DDR2 833mhz and i think me Dad runs 4gb DDR2

My library has ~4000 RAWs (not that many I know), but there is not even a hint of slowdown when only Lr is open. iMac 20" 2.16GHz C2D with 1GB of RAM. I'm going to upgrade the RAM soon as it kinda struggles when opening more than one shot in Ps whilst Lr is also open. And the 2GB upgrade is now only £70 on Crucial's site

You say its not that many. I would love to be down to 4000. Infact in a few weeks I will. I have alot of good work dont get me wrong. I just have alot of stuff that wouldnt be the end of the world If I deleted it. It would vastly speed up lightroom too so it will benifit.

I am at just over 15,000 of selected images (99% RAW), from last year and this year to date. This is mostly personal and fine art work. I have a seperate library for sports and other work (I am afraid to try and put them together as lightroom is starting to chug already). At the end of the year I will have to start another library.

maybe the wizzes at Adobe will find a way of making LR only load up the library entries its looking at last rather than the whole lot...makes it chug less, no?

Ive got 14k RAW photos loaded into Lightroom and a few 1000 processed Jpeg versions... no sign of a chug yet. Im hoping it starts to chug soon, I want a new macpro and will be needing a reason soon.

If your MacPro does start to chug at anything less than 20K then I wont be getting one!

I envy you soo much! lol
