Lightroom: what does this new feature in v1.2 actually mean for me...?

Hi All

I use Lightroom and will be upgrading to the latest version V1.2 asap. I spotted on the Lightroom site the following comment;

• Additional camera support for the Canon EOS 40D, Fuji FinePix IS-1, Olympus EVOLT E-510, Panasonic DMC-FZ18, and more

Now, I own and love my Olympus E-510 - but what does "additional camera support" actually mean...? What will I actually get and how will I benefit from the upgrade...?

Any advice please?

All it means is that LR now supports raw files from these cameras rather than extra features for those models.

But I don't see anything different at all when I import images. Should I see a new option on import...?

No, it just works now, it didn't before.

Well, as you know the 1.1 update worked with E-510 RAW files, but the 1.2 update now officially supports them.

The upshot of this means that lightroom now knows how to interpret the data from the file. This is more apparant in images with lots of hightlight data where in the older version there would be a magenta cast, this is now not present.

hope that helps?

BTW, still got the E-510 and sticking with it :D

Ahhh, the old Magenta cast issue; now I understand Chilli, thanks.

Huh... I thought you had sold the E-510? Didn't I read somewhere on here that you had sold it...? Glad to read you're still with the Oly :)

Sale fell through, so decided to keep it to compare it to the 40D. It won and the 40d was packed up and sent out at weekend (at least i did not lose anything on it)

INvested in some serious glass for the OLY instead (50-200 2.8-3.5 / 14-54 / 11-22mm plus 1.4x TC) :D

Ooooh, now I must admit that I love the look of that 11-22mm lens, and the one below (forget, is it 7-14 or similar?). The next one for me though will be the soon-to-be-released 70-300mm which will become available hopefully sometime in October, together with, of course the 1.4x.

Can I ask where you got the 11-22 and 1.4 from ?

Must seriously consider a quality wide angle though...:)

got the 11-22 and the 1.4 from Kerso. very good price too!.

i was tempted by the 7-14, but the 11-22 will do for now (Plus its cheaper, faster, sharper, and can be used with filters)

How's the FL-50?

Exactly the same person I shall be getting mine from.

As for the FL-50: well, to be honest Chilli, I am still very inexperienced, but I managed some decent pics of the puppies with the black backdrop, not tried any portraits with it yet, but did manage a frog outside my house late at night that (I think) turned out brilliantly. Not processed yet, but will do later. I did use the FL-50 in Pembroke last weekend too when I took some of the King Charles Cavaliers there. There's a few images on my new site (hint, hint) that I have just plugged elsewhere on here :)

EDIT: Processed the frog image quickly... just a crop and auto-correct

Am off to see someone else on here on Friday hopefully too to see some studio flash gear he has for sale. Can't wait... but sheesh... this hobby soon grabs ya doesn't it:)
