Lightroom V10 update issues

I know Adobe Lightroom is not always popular on here, but it generally works for me. However earlier this week it seemed to have updated and in turn I had to update my catalogues when I opened them. Today I'm trying to download images I've taken in the last couple of days and it seems to be struggling, thinking another version already has the catalogue open. Has anybody else had issues this week?

I haven't really tried editing yet so haven't explored if there are any other problems.

Any insights from others?

Thanks

Yes it creates a new catalogue and adds v10 to the one you are previously using, so you have old cat and old cat .v10
You then have to go into edit>preferences>general and alter the default catalogue to be v10, other wise it works ( or not) with the old one.
One other thing if you are using Acronis true image as back up software you have to tell Acronis to ignore PS, LR and Bridge .exe files or it won't play ball- in my case it would not open RAW files
I don't know it its the same with other back up software

What do you mean by "struggling"? Is it only happening on Import or in other areas of the application? I took the advice of Julieanne Kost who admitted the Import function is clunky. I now drag all my images to an "Image Dump" folder from the card and then do a "Synchronise" on that folder. It's much faster than importing direct from the card. Admittedly it's been a while since I've done that though so times may have changed.

IME, Lightroom "performance improvements" are an oxymoron. It feels more sluggish and annoying with each update. After this latest version, the Import window keeps popping up randomly. Also the resetting of filters on switching views is really irrirtating.

You then have to go into edit>preferences>general and alter the default catalogue to be v10, other wise it works ( or not) with the old one.
Wow. I didn't have to do this... Another example of erratic software.

I haven't noticed any odd behaviour since the upgrade earlier this week but I haven't done much editing. Hope to put that right tomorrow :)

I seldom use Lightroom- I do however: use Photoshop 2020 all the time - having just done the upgrade my PC runs slower the programme does not run as it should, sometimes I get the message Adobe Photoshop is NOT responding - very frustrating having shelled out £120 a year for the last 5 years :(

I have now deleted ALL Photoshop & associated programmes & am at present exploring other editing suites like On1Camera RAW and Affinity- prior to deciding which one to purchase

As far as I am concerned they can Stick Photoshop/Lightroom/Bridge & camera raw where the sun don't shine :LOL::LOL:

@alan72: There have been a number of issues with the most recent Adobe updates, some relating to permissions. I raised a case with Adobe and one of their engineers remotely sorted it out for me. Now working faster than before. See conversations on Adobe support site.

I have used LR a lot since the update but no problems.

Dave

Mine works fine, and after the update it automatically started using the new catalogue it had created. Performance is fine - neither faster nor slower.

HI Lez

I have been slowly moving across to On1 Camera RAW in readiness for ditching LRC & PS in March when my subscription is up for renewal. The recently launched 2021 version has some nice additions and refinements.

I'm a bit slow to adapt to new softeware but was surprised how easy it has been to get into the swing of things. I signed up for the Plus membership to get access to additional video training resources and have to say they have been exceptional. I can now edit the same image in both LR and On1 and get almost exactly the same result - it's just a different route to the destination.

ON1 have a mobile version like LR and that is also on subscription (although somewhat cheaper than Adobe) but I've never been insterested in editing on my tablet or phone so don't have tpo pay for something I'm never going to use.

HAD the option being the point :) I have now removed all Adobe Photoshop from my PC

Still looking for a suitable replacement

Les :)

I have Affinity, Luminar, and recently purchased ON1 raw, never used any of them really, not because I don't like them, but the learning curve puts me off, I spent so much time learning PS that I think I am getting to old to start again, however with the way Adobe are going it looks like I may have to, I really can't be bothered faffing around trying to update PS when it won't let me, and Adobe customer service is abysmal.

I did try briefly On1RAW on the 14 day trial, but it is as you say so different to Photoshop, I couldn't find the Sharpening tool for one thing :LOL::LOL: and I am also too old to learn - so maybe going to give GIMP a try

Just been having a look at Anthony Morgantis YouTube channel, he compares lightroom with ON1 Raw 2020, its interesting how good ON1 is, I recently got ON1 2021 which should be better (in theory) so I'm going to have a play this week [emoji4]

I couldn't find things I use in Photoshop on ON1 _ looked on YouTube and found a few vids, could always buy a book I guess :)

They have a LOT of video tutorials. On1 is much more like lightroom with lots of additional tools, rather than Photoshop. I think the learning curve with GIMP will be a lot steeper.

I have the GIMP manual - did use GIMP before Photoshop Toni, I know how it works :)

I may well opt for ON1 - I'm still perusing the free version- I have never used Lightroom although I do have it

I think it depends when and how you pay for Adobe. The cheapest package with ON1 is £84.53. I bought an Adobe annual subscription at £79.99 last Christmas Day via Amazon. In fact I bought two packages that gave me two years more so that I don't have to cough up again until January 2022. For the price I think it is good value as I use an iPad Pro as well as my MacBook for processing photos. I also dabble with Photoshop which is included in the subscription. I have also been paying for an On1 Raw annual upgrade for the last 4 year's and will probably upgrade again as I am fascinated by watching the ON1 RAW software develop. I just wish they would slow down a bit and get rid of bugs and speed issues etc on existing software plus I find their Fuji film simulations are awful. I also understand that their 360 implementation is not as straightforward as Adobe's but again with time I am sure it will improve.

In August I purchased ON1 2020 with the upgrade to 2021 (which I've just upgraded) for £62, at least with standalone software you don't have to update it every year, I doubt I will update ON1 for a couple of year's unless their is something major on it, its nice to have the choice, unlike Adobe.

HI Trev, I must own up to not actually checking the On1 price - just went off the marketing blurb :(

Comparing the normal 1 year pre-paid prices for On1 360 and Adobe Photography subscriptions with 1TB of storage (the only comparable level) shows a saving of £69.60 in favour of On1
