I use Lightroom v 4.4

Can I upgrade to v 5 with an outright purchase?

When I go to the Adobe site it seems to always push me to their monthly subscription model

Just for balance , the upgrade is also available from WEX

Lightroom v5.7 was released recently so (in theory) you should be able to update whichever version Amazon supplies to that.
