I want to transfer some of my photos onto my ipad. The trouble is, all my editing is done in Lightroom. So, do I set up an export specifically for my ipad? What does everyone else do?

Thanks :)

I put mine on Flickr and use FlickStackr on my iPad.

But can't you just send them to (or leave them in) a specific folder and sync that, if it's syncing you want? I'm reading into your question that you think the fact that iTunes will only sync directly with Aperture or iPhoto is a problem, but it'll also sync with a folder/folders.

There are lots of other solutions too, such as Dropbox.

I can make a folder yes, that's what I'd like to do, then synch it. But I'd ahve to export them from Lightroom first, or transfer a raw file?

Raw files work fine, though they'll take up a bit more room of course.

I keep all my pictures in folders anyway, then bring them into Lightroom, so I don't need to export them again, just point iTunes at the right folder.

Confused....:( I'll work it out I think. I don't want all my photos on my ipad, just a select few, which means making a collection I'm thinking.....

Ok, I'm working on it... thanks!

Export them from LR with the longest size set to 2048 pixels. That'll allow you to zoom in 2x but still keep the file size down.

Edit:

At that size they'll also fit the iPad 3 screen. No need to resize when you upgrade.

Hi

I went through something similar, in iTunes, go to the Photos tab, and click on the import photos. You can then choose a specific folder where you have the photos (as per above posts), you can then create sub folders (if you wish) in this folder and they appear as tick box options in iTunes. Tick the relevant sub folder boxes you want iTunes to synch with.

This also means you can synch different photos to different devices easily and it will add the folders in your device - rather than just 1 large folder of photos that every device gets.

I help set one up for my mate who's a joiner - he now has individual folders for Kitchens, for stair cases, solid wood floors, replacement doors etc etc. So when he is speaking to a client, he can click on the specific folder...

Hope this is of some help...

Make a new export profile in Lightroom, which points to a specific folder, then tell iTunes which folder you'd like to sync with the iPad, and select the folder that you told Lightroom to export to :)

This, other than I did mine as a publish collection, so changes are also synced to my iPhone.

Export them from LR with the longest size set to 2048 pixels. That'll allow you to zoom in 2x but still keep the file size down.

Good advice - no point going any bigger as iTunes will 'optimise' the image! Also set to 132ppi

Set up an export preset to a given folder (eg iPad Images), use the 'Set a subfolder' option to create your iPad Album (eg Motorsport), set iTunes to sync your parent folder (iPad Images) and hey presto - now works really well with the wireless sync in OS5

Another way is to use the Publish Services but you'll need to resize first (or let iTunes do it's stuff) - I do it this way but with a round trip to Photoshop also in the workflow. Give me a shout if you want me to explain further!

Hope this helps

Andy

Edit - just noticed the Adobe TV link above explains Publish Services!

I actually have a folder called "Sync" and just copy images into subfolders to create a library on the iPad.
