I've finally got around to ordering a copy of Lightroom. Mail strike means I probably won't get it until Monday now:bang: Still, I guess I support the reason for the strike, so I really don't mind.

Anyway, do any of those who have used it for a while have any tips or tricks?? Workload cribs??

I did have an evaluation copy for a while, and I have to admit that I found that it seemed to offer quite a lot, particularly the develop section.

So, anybody???

Thanks in advance.

Upload your shots. Quickly go through them and delete the rubbish ones. The rate the rest of them with 1 star. Go through those and rate any better ones with 2 stars. Repeat for 3 stars etc etc. By the end you should end up with a handfull of 4-5 stars which are the ones I process.:)

Hi,

Have a look at this site http://www.layersmagazine.com/ there is a section on Lightroom Tips.

I also have the Lightroom Book by Martin Evening, available from Amazon, which is very useful, although I still haven't manged to get too far into it.

Hope this helps,

Chris

I have just got Lightroom aswell, looks quite good and if you have loads of shots its much easier to view and delete as neccessary than it is in CS2.

O'reilly site has a helpful blog/tips section. worth looking at lightroom killer tips (or something like that)...

if you've got LOTS of images it'll take a while to catalog them all/sort into library. to help speed things up maybe sectioning things up into logical chunks i.e. 2006 catalog, 2007 catalog etc. it can go through your entire collection pretty quickly but obviously would take some time to load up years worth of data. it seems to dump everything when you close which is why I reckon numerous catalogs are better. Rawshooter was better this way as it used explorer and didn't seem to tax the hdd on start up, remembering the trees left opened up and picks up where it left off. The processing power of LR is fantastic though - straight to mono...! yay! I think its become an almost one-stop Raw editing package very nicely.

get the update to 1.1 as well straight away.

I'm a big Lighroom fan and it is fantastic for weddings.....process on the laptop, and straight in to the slideshow....all knowing that the original files have not been touched.

Good keywording is useful... and keeping up with it! I also find the search a great help....in fact there are just so many ways to catalogue that it seems to suit most tastes - use ratings as MK does.

I find it faster/more reliable to import my photos on to my drive straight from the CF card and then import from location to Lightroom.
