Lightroom - this can't be the case, surely.......?

In the most recent update of Lightroom (was it v5.2?) a "feather" slider appeared in the Spot Removal tool. I used it straight away not realising it was a new feature, and I thought ...."great".

Now I'm not so sure. I've just been looking back at some older images processed in V4 (I think) and there are some ghastly cloning attempts on them. I wouldn't conceivably have been happy with processing like that.

So I'm thinking: in LR previous to 5.2 was the feathering automatic or pre-set, and now in the new version all previous cloning attempts the feathering amount has reverted to zero?

If that is the case I will have to go back to all my earlier images and re-process them!

Has anyone else noticed this or is it just me?

Yep, the feather control slider is new in version 5. In version 4 you were stuck with a fixed feather amount.

My point is that looking at a few images where I used the earlier version of spot removal tool, without the feather control, the cloning looks terrible now! It looks as if whatever the auto setting was in previous versions, it is now reset to zero.

If that IS the case it's a disaster!

I've just found this;

Feather of clone spots is set to 0 after upgrading catalog to Lightroom 5.

It's a bug in v5.2 which v5.3 release candidate is set to fix.

I can't help thinking that Lightroom is getting a little bit too clever for its own good. Err....our own good.....
