Sorry for keeping posting questions but I'm having a 'mare of a time getting my photo software and ahrdware to work well.

This time I have bought a new screen and now LR shows very soft, almost blurry looking pictures. I know there should not be as the very same picture looked pin sharp on my old laptop. Plus I am shooting with a Canon 17-40mm L so the pics should come out pin sharp, and they have on my old computer set up.
The pics look ok before LR has done the "rendering privew" thing. Then they look really soft.

Anyone any ideas? This is really driving me insane! :bang:

Click on the image and see what its like magnified ?
Still soft and nasty looking.

I just tried the same pics on my NC10 netbook and they look much better.

Is your screen set to its native resolution? How do images look in other applications?

I played around and quite by chance found it's because I needed to render the privews at 1:1. At anything other than that the correct sharpness is not displayed according to something I read.

It's fixed now but man does it take ages to render 1608 images!

The normal setting for previews is standard. This should be OK for most applications unless you have the library window set to display only a few images. Then the sharpness will be to low.

How big is your new monitor and how many images are you displaying at one time in Library module

My monitor is 22" widescreen. In my library I have 1618 for the current catalogue.

The problem is not with the thumbnail images but rather when you select just one to view it larger while still in the library module.

Watch at the bottom of the screen and see if you get a "Loading" message. If so wait until that disappears to evaluate the image. LR keeps thumbs for the contact sheet view but then renders them up to a bigger size when you view full screen. That will takes a few seconds, depending on you computer.

I get the "loading" message. It's after that has finished that they look soft.

That's very strange. Try rendering an image to 100% and then return it to "fit" does it still look soft?
