Whenever I download images from my camera into LR, there is always some settings that I feel shouldn't be there.

The Exposure is always at +12, Recovery at 51, Fill Light at 12 and Blacks at 5 etc.

Shouldn't these be at zero? I'm just wondering if I've changed a setting somewhere that is causing it.

Isn't it because you have some in camera processing going on? Only just getting into LR myself so not and educated comment just a thought :)

Hi Treeman, thanks for the reply. The in camera processing has no effect at all on RAW files, must be something else.

I suspect that when you are importing your files, you are adding some kind of preset. Check the import screen next time you import and make sure no presets are selected.

yep check your 'develpo preset' in the import screen.

Thanks for the help.

Please excuse the ignorance, but can I ask what the "Import Screen" and "Developo Preset" is?

I've had a look around the LR screen but can see nothing that jumps out at me.

The import screen is the screen that is shown for importing, where you choose where you want to save the files to, what you want to call them etc.

The develop presets menu is on that screen and allows you to apply settings to an image automatically while you are importing it.

In the develop module if you adjust an average picture (eg landscape if that is what you shoot most) with the sort of tweaks you usually do you can then set those adjustments as the starting point for all new pictures.

Go to the menu bar at the top and on the develop drop down menu you will see 'Set default Settings'. After that any new pictures will start of with those adjustment settings. You can of course set everything to zero and set that as default.

Still trying to work out what default i want for the 5D2 :)

I have seen somewhere that lightroom applies these settings by default when viewing an image for the first time. It doesn't come from the camera but is a sort of default view setting within the application.
As for changing it and resetting everything to what you want, I've had a quick look through and can't find it. I'm sure I read it somewhere on TP so may be worth searching some of the older lightroom posts.
