Lightroom question

I only recently purchased Lightroom 4 and so far am impressed with its functions.

I have been editing files taken on my Oly E5 with some success.

I am now using it to develop raw's from my new D800, initial impressions are also good.

My newbie question relates to camera settings in LR, does it automatically adjust the image on import according to the camera it sees in the exif data, I note there is a profile for d800 in the lightroom folder. The adobe standard seems to work quite well.

It sees the lens and lets me allow the lens correction tool with no problem.

Sorry if it is a daft question, any other tips on using LR with d800 appreciated.

I do believe it does import your pictures as you captured them, The adobe settings lets you change them because its a raw file. So you can use adobe standard, Landscape, Portrait and many more as well as for using the my passport colourchecker for accurate colour profiles.

in the development screen, there is an option to correct for lens/camera profile. You need to select the tick box. The profile is automatically selected from the EXIF data, provided there is a profile in the LR settings.

I don't think LR, or any other Raw Processing software (other than the manufacturers own) can read the camera settings exactly. They are approximations. Some cameras look great with the Adobe presets, some don't. :shrug:

You can customise to your camera in the Camera Calibration section if you want to move away from the Adobe Standard colour reproduction option. I don't bother, but am planning on getting a Passport Colorchecker soon to get more accurate colours from my camera. I don't need it though, it's just something I want to have a play about with.

As George said, you can get LR (and ACR) to compensate for Lens/Camera problems in the Lens Corrections section. I have that, and a bit of Sharpening and Noise reduction applied in import (same in ACR too) before I decide if I want to do anything else.

It only reads and applies the White Balance. Other things like sharpness, etc. are ignored.
