Lightroom query

I am using LR 3.6 and this is my query.

I have processed a number of images in my current catalog. I created a new catalog and imported a photo I'd previously adjusted in LR. The resulting imported image showed the adjustments I'd made but had lost the history of those adjustments.

Where are those adjustment histories kept if not in the catalog or xmp files please as it is a disaster if they are lost. Is there another method besides import to get both the image and its history into LR?

Did you export as catalogue then import the catalogue with photo though? If its just a standalone photo you exported then imported then the edit history won't be there

It won't help with your current predicament, but for future reference if you import the raw files as DNGs, the adjustments are stored within the file, not as an extra file which can get separated from the raw file, as you have discovered.

Unfortunately, as you have discovered the .xmp sidecar file that stores all of the raw adjustment data does only that.

The adjustment history is stored within the Lightroom library files instead.

This is to help make the .xmp file universally compatible with other raw editors which only record adjustment data.
