ive just downloaded lightroom 3 on a trial and im having a play about with it, does anybody know if it can be set up so that when it copies the pics to a folder on your hard drive it will automatically delete the pics when they have been copied off

i only plan to do this now whilst im having a play and when i get some proper shots il undo this to check first that they are in the folder before deleting them

Dave, strictly speaking no!

when you import your photos you can Add, Copy or Move. If you choose the latter it'll do what you are asking but at an increased risk of loss of data
 
if you're importing images straight from the card, then just import and format the card when its back in the camera

if importing from an external source- use 'move' rather than copy, but leave the computer alone while it's moving the files, you wouldn't want the software to crash
 
It's always better to leave the photos on as many sources as you can.. say you copied them to you HDD and your computer died, at least you would still have then on a card. Maybe get a few cards so you can swap camera cards and have the files on your spare card for a while or until needed..
