Howdy all,

Got a problem with ligtroom I'm hoping you can help me with. Back in october I bought an externa hard drive and set about merging the catalogues from my PC and Laptop into one on the external hard drive. I'm pretty sure everything was fine for ages. I've not used lightroom in a long time as I haven't used the camera at all lately but I needed to process some old photos for a friend the other day when I noticed something wierd. Pretty much every adjustment for every photo has disappeared. The tags are still there but no adjustments.

I've gone throught the backups and they're no better and I've loaded different versions of catalogues and still there's no sign of the edits I'd done. Due to me not knowing the right way to do it I actually had a "few" catalogue files when I was merging everything onto the one drive but I've been through them all and the edits don't appear.

I've got a feeling it's something to do with installing version 1.2. I'v not really used lightroom ata ll since installing the update so can't be certain that it when wrong then but it just seems too much of a coincidence.

Can anyone help?

Cheers,
Kev

Not really sure its going to help, but have you checked the My Docs folder to see if the original LR folder might hold the adjustments or catalogue you are looking for.

I have upgraded repeatedly from 1.0 and not had this issue. I think it is likely that at some point you have "overwritten" these adjustments from another catalog.

Also worth checking if the xmp files were being created, they should be alongside the raw files if they exist, they might contain the edits which you can pull into LR or PS/ACR

Looks as though the files have lost the catalog which contained the images information, or the link to it.

You might try the following. With a "good" catalog loaded, in Library mode go File: Catalog settings. Under backup tick, "every time LR starts". Restart LR. The back Up screen will display. Tell it to back up. This will cause LR to check the integrity of Catalog.

Next go back to the catalog settings and under back Up you'll see optimise. get LR to optimise the catalog.

Basically all we are doing here is making sure the catalog is in good order. If this doesn't work I can't think of anything else you can do.

Just out of interest are the links to the images in Library mode in white or red?

A quicker way to get the integrity check to come up is to hold down CTRL when launching LR, there's a tick box in the catalogue selection window

Cheers for the help everyone, seems I didn't quite look "everywhere" for the catalogue. Found it somewhere random complete with all the edits. Doh.

I've now deleted every other lrcat file to stop it happening again, they were all junk anyway. Then it wouldn't back up, helps if I point lightroom in the right direction rather than just take for granted the right location is already selected.

Optimised satis too.

Quick one about the xmp files, are they normally in the same folder as the image or are they stored seperatley?

The xmp files will (should) be alongside the raw files.

Oh. They're definately not in the same folder as the RAW files.

You'll only get the xmp files if you tick the auto write xmp files box in the metadata section of the catalog properties box
