I have followed what I thought to be a simple process to move my photos off my mac hard drive to my new NAS [luckily I do have backups and haven't removed the originals yet from the mac hard drive]

So, all photo's uploaded to my NAS. I have created a new folder in LR5 and imported all my files therein from this folder. I removed the old folder, then relinked the missing photos to the new folder. Problem is all my DNG files are unedited versions, so the edits I have made haven't transferred over?

I was under the assumption that the catalog settings are still intact? Somebody please help...

Thanks in advance, Kris.

Anyone? It's driving me crazy.

I've actually gone back to my last back up. Watching two tutorials but neither seem to work. You can't drag and move all of your pictures onto the new drive, it says not whilst Lightroom is running, can't see how you can do anything else?

The other route according to Lightroom queen is to change your folder name so that you can reallocate where the missing files are but I can't see how you do that on a mac either. Time to call it a night I think with a fresh head tomorrow night.

The way I did it was to create a folder on the new HD, place a random pic in it and import - that's the link to the new drive created. Delete that images and you're left with the folder. Then drag and drop the folders (in LR) from their current location to that new folder. Rename folder through LR to whatever you want then and things are moved over. Backup and done :)

Thanks Pat, that seems to have done the trick. Importing the one picture has sorted it I think, must open the link like you say instead of trying to dump sall in one go?

I had loads of issues when I had images spread all over - kept losing links, having mulytiple versions etc..

Once I got my head around the relationship between file location, the catalogue and links it became easier, although I do still make mistakes after all these years. :)

you dont need to do anything with the catalogue or reimport anything.

just (with LR closed) move the image files, open LR and itll have ? over each collection. right click and locate files. all edits remain intact.

Well I've managed to move it all over but there's an exclamation mark over many files so currently overwriting the metadata to get rid. That simple process Neil just didn't seem to work so easy for me or it could possibly be me getting used to my couple of week old mac.

What a ball ache but hopefully 99% there. I have trashed and deleted my old files now as happy they're on my NAS and LR is working as it should be.

You know what, on a night like tonight I'm going to step away from the computer now and leave it to write its metadata, off to go take some pictures, that's the fun bit not this headache :)
