I recently starting getting the hang of Lightroom and I am finding that when I import images into it they all come out with a really warm and orange cast over them. Even though on my camera the images look fairly normal and as I wanted to take them. All of this is in RAW btw. I am thinking that LR has some method for displaying the RAW on screen and that involves some sort of processing which is throwing this up? Also I am worried that if I am editing on the basis of the preview then will my final result also then be out by that much?

Any advice would be a massive help! (I am using LR2 and W7)

When you import into LR it applies Adobe Standard profile to all your images until you tell it otherwise. It's ignoring any in camera profiles and showing you the true RAW.

You can tweak this though...

WARNING!!!
Calibrate your Monitor First, this may fix your problem straight away.

Once you've done that, step into the world of custom defaults.

You can set a different profiles for for each camera that you own (and for specific ISO's if desired) and these are the defaults on import, unless you apply a preset.

e.g. For my setup have 3 different rules defined for my 3 bodies based on S/N, and using the Camera Profiles from the page below

http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/DNG_Profiles

Download and install them, then get ready to tweak away...

First go to Preferences / Presets and set "Make defaults specific to camera S/N" on

Now, pop into the Develop module and adjust the calibration section to use a profile for your camera, each manufacturer has different ones, and you may have multiples to choose from ( e.g. 1 for Pentax, but about 8 for Nikon). Pick the one that suits your images best.

If that's done the trick and removed the orange cast, then go to

Develop \ Set Default Settings

And set the new defaults.

If it's not quite right, adjust the sliders in calibration until it's correct, then nip along to

Develop \ Set Default Settings

Once this is set, every new image imported from that camera body has those new settings applied automagically on import.

Far easier than mucking about with presets ;)

thank you so much, will have a go with that. I forgot to mention that I calibrate the screen in a dark room using a Spyder3 pro.

i downloaded the camera profiles but I can only see 5 profiles for my MKII, but when I open a shot from my 5D and I got quite a few options open up. And I am finding it really hard to get rid of the orange cast, just dont know what sliders to adjust.

If it is a colour cast I'd try the white balance sliders...
