Have been getting to grips with de-noising just the background using Photoshop. Getting better at selecting the subject only, and creating a separate layer. That way I can selectively denoise just the background therefor preserving detail in the subject (bird photography).

Problem is that when I save the adjustments in Photoshop - I'm noticing that the image is saved as a tif file in Lightroom which is fine - however I've noticed that the lens information in the metadata of the tif file has gone - and when I try a metadata 'sync' between the original NEF file and the new tif file, the lens info still doesn't appear. Do you know why this might be. Likewise, when I export from the tif to a jpg, the lens information remains missing. Just means that when I upload to Flickr, the lens information will likely no longer be there. I've noticed this to be the case with quite a few pictures from birders on Flickr - missing lens information.

Anybody noticed this and have a solution to this? Cheers!!

There was a discussion about this a few years back and I believe that the omission is deliberate. By maintaining the lens data in the TIFF file, there is probability of the lens correction being performed multiple times resulting in a lower quality image. I seem to remember that it's also removed from cropped images as the cropping would also invalidate any automatic corrections. JPG's maintain the data as it is assumed to be final output operation.

Well......if you are desperate there is a way round. Long winded and your local camera club competition secretary will throw a hissy fit.
Before you start make a copy of the original which has all the data on it. Then work the copy leaving the original untouched. When you've done your amendments open up the untouched original and copy and paste the amended copy onto that as a new layer. Flatten image and you'll have the amendments showing, but the data will be that of the original.
Long winded but you'll have the best of both worlds. Is it worth the effort? Only you can decide that.

I guess not critical that it's there. There's no reason for me to use Lightroom after de noising so I could export to jpeg from Photoshop instead. Will do more experimenting tonight

Do you use the built in Flickr publishing service rather than exporting to jpeg and then uploading yourself? If the publishing service then check that you haven't opted to remove the meta data.
