Lightroom organisation question

Hi all,

I've had lightroom for quite a while and have been following Scott Kelby's workflow of importing images to folders, creating a collection set then adding photos to a collection within that and then sifting through from there - rejecting and selecting favourites.

I've now just realised that although I've deleted rejected photos and they're no longer in the sets, they're still in the original folders :bonk:. Since I've rejected them I'll never want to use them so I'm wondering if:

1.) I should be doing something differently and deleting from disk when I reject photos (Is there a setting somewhere for that?)

2.) If there's anything I can do retrospectively so delete any photos which don't belong in a set, or something similar so that I can have a cleanup?

Cheers,
Eddie.

I use the same workflow process, when I select the rejects and press delete, it gives me a dialogue box that asks if I want to remove from folder (Lightroom) or from hard drive. I always select hard drive because as you said, I marked them as rejects because they of no use to anyone, so why keep them.

Thanks Chris. For some reason I don't get that dialogue anymore - I may once upon a time have checked "don't ask me again" or something. Maybe I just need to work out how to bring that option back!

Guess I'll have to just sort through the others and go on a manual deleting spree.

I use LR3.6 and I don't think it will be too dissimilar with whatever version you are using. If you go into the top level of your Catalog in the Library view, filter by Attribute to show only those you've flagged as Rejected, it should show all photos in your catalogue you've flagged as rejected. Select all the photos, right click on any of them, you'll see an option that reads "Delete Photos...". Selecting that will give you the option of whether you want remove them from LR or from disk. There is no "remember this option" box to tick.
Hope that saves you time you could have spent on manual deleting spree!

Go to Edit/Preferences/General tab - there should be a button there you can click to reset all the warnings...
