Lightroom ordering images from 2 bodies

Yes
I recently shot a wedding with 2 camera bodies, obviously i'd like to process and present the images in chronological order but at present they are appearing in the lightroom collection in numerical order and therefore effectively 2 batches from different cameras

What is the easiest way to work around this ?

i'm not even sure the timestamp on each camera is correct if it was possible to sort by time.

Thanks in advance,
Mike.

Just set the sort option at the bottom to "Capture Time"

I shot a wedding on Friday and borrowed Marcel's camera and realised at the end of the day he hasn't changed the time since the clocks changed! so mine all over the shop, if you start moving them around it will change to "user order" automatically (or does in LR3)

Yes use capture time. If the cameras are not synced to the same time it's a simple process to change them but you need to select the images you want to change - You can do this by filtering on camera type or lens type.......

When in the Library press G so you are in the view shown above. Select the appropriate images where you want to fix the ime and go to menu - Metadata>Edit Capture Time

Type of adjustment should be adjust to a specific date and time

Now this is where you add/subtract the required time.

When you do this all images will be moved by the appropriate amount of time. So if the original is 27/08/2011 14:18:26 and you change to 27/08/2011 14:22:38, all images selected will be moved by 4 minutes 12 seconds.

Hope that helps sort your images.

ooo nice one! Hadn't spotted that before :) all mine in perfect order now :D aya!

Very good :)

Guys - i've already imported the photos and an well on with the selection / processing.

Is this option only available at import time ?

Is there anything i can still do now i have the collection / folder set up ?

Next time try to remember to have both cameras times sync'ed.

With canon this is dead easy to get them perfect.

Set the time on your computer (this should be automatic and more or less spot on)
Using EOS Utility sync camera time to computer, do this on both bodies and they should exactly time sync'ed

Just as easy to set the time on both cameras by going into the menus setting the time (before setting set) and then when both ready press set on them both at the same time. :)

This is how me and my photography partner sync 4 bodies at every wedding we do. Dead easy

I use this link to set my cameras and get my seconds/assistants to do the same. Works nicely and it can be done before the wedding or shoot.

Never thought of that - good one! :)

Been there seen it done it wore the T shirt lol

That's how I knew.

once you have sorted the images , export the images by renaming them with a sequence no , this will retain the sort order what ever pacakage they are viewed in.

Cheers Steve

Thanks Steve - something else that would have scuppered me !

In terms of workflow, if I've shot on two or more bodies then I tend to import all the images into a holding folder on my iMac, sort the order by time in there and then import into Lightroom renaming each file in numerical order.

This way, I get file names numerical order amtching that chronalogical order. It takes a bit longer as you're effectively transferring the files twice, but it's worth it in the long run.

I suppose I could transfer the files into the destination folder, and just have Lightroom rename them on import, but that leaves too much possibility for messing with existing files.

The issue is if the time is wrong on one of the bodies then doing this doesn't work (see above) :)
