Yes
Just about cleared the credit card, and more or less made up my mind on the specs of the next computer. But would be interested to hear of any one that is running lightroom on one of Interl's G chips especially the G3258.

I know that most people here recommend getting an i5 chip, but if I was to get one of them at this stage then I would not be able to get the M.2 drive that I would like (along with other parts). I can always change the chip later, and more easy than having to reinstall everything again.

As the desktop is not the main machine, then a little overclocking may well be undertaken also.

Moving from a machine that is running a C2D at 3Ghz

I don't understand why you think you'd need to re-install everything if you change drives. You only need to clone old to new then carry on working. I swapped the H87N mobo in my server for an H81N with mSATA slot. I just cloned the original boot drive to the mSATA drive, loaded a new NIC driver and that was it. Changing a CPU is far more effort.

So I suppose what I'm saying is go for the i5 now but use separate drives for boot and data to make the transition to M.2 painless.

Thanks Jonathan. I have cloned in the past, but while it worked on the laptop, on the desktop I started to have issues after I had cloned. Guess this has made me a bit weary of doing it again on a desktop.
Cheers

The secret is to clone the whole drive, not just the OS partition. I find it works best when I don't interfere and just leave things on auto.....
FWIW I use Acronis True Image Home but there are many other options.
