Lightroom not importing images

I am currently trying to go through some old images stored on USB3 hard drives. However, when I try to import the images into the Lightroom catalogue, it's only importing TIFF's and Jpegs; the RAW files don't get imported. If I choose a folder full of only RAW files, the images show up as thumbnails, but when I press import, after a few seconds it says no images were found.

Does anyone have any idea what is going on, and how I can fix it?

Is it possible that these "old" images might already be in your Lightroom catalogue somewhere, and you've got it set up to ignore duplicates when importing?

I think it must be a catalogue problem as I managed to import one folder last night but still having problems with 2 folders. However after deleting the whole catalogue from Lightroom and making a new onr the problem still exists. It's not set up to ignore duplicates

Try copying the images on the USB drive to the location you want to store them. Directly, not through Lightroom. Then use the ADD option to in import dialogue and see if this works. I've had the occasional problem such as you have and this cured it.

This resolves all import problems for me. It's also useful if you have multiple cards as they can all be done at once.

If it still occurs, LR will pop up a preview window showing you what it's going to import - allowing you to "check" or "uncheck". Are the images greyed out here, or do they look normal?
Edit>Preferences "Treat JPEGS next to raw files as separate photos" (do you shoot JPEG & raw? Is it duplicates not being imported?)
On the Import window, under "File Handling", is "Don't import suspected duplicates" ticked? (As per @StewartR suggestion)

Thanks, problem solved! I unticked "don't import suspected duplicates" and now the folder is showing up. All the files are RAW files, but for some reason Lightroom obviously decided they had already all been imported, which they had at an earlier date, but then they were on my computer and not on an external hard drive. I had deleted the original folder on my computer, but for some reason Lightroom thought they were still there.
