Afternoon all

I currently have lightroom beta three on my computer along with Windows 7 RC. I have just purchased my retail copy of Windows 7 and I have decided I am going to take the opportunity to do a totally fresh install.

My biggest concern is over Lightroom.

My images are all stored on a seperate internal hard drive and I work from this drive when editing. I will be blitzing the main drive and re-installing everything on there making no changes to the image drive. What do I need to do with lightroom before & after the OS re-install in order to keep all my images and the changes I've made in lightroom?

Bear in mind I'm a relative lightroom noob :)

I did this recently. It's pretty easy, you just need to make sure you backup all the right bits.

1. The vital thing (to make sure you don't lose all the edits/ changes you've made to your pics) is to backup the Lightroom catalogue. Wherever you choose to store this (it's in your lightroom settings) copy the folder and back it up somewhere!

2. It's also a very good idea to backup 'lower level' lightroom files. These are found in vista/win7 at c:/your username/appdata/roaming/adobe/lightroom (I think this is the path, not in front of my lightroom comp so not 100%) This contains bits and bobs and is epsecially important to backup if you use the web module of LR at all.

I think that's it, but don't quote me on it (I might have missed something important)....

Is ok! I confirm it works...

but better ALSO save the images as .DNG so if anything wrong with lightroom the .dng files will keep the raw info + the selections and correction you done already.... this is what DNG is
