I've re-jigged my back-up strategy so that I keep a back-up of everything on a NAS in a separate building.

When importing files into Lightroom I see there is an option to make a second copy elsewhere but it just seems to dump a load of files there.

Can anyone suggest a good workflow in this situation?

When I use the "Make a second copy" function the images are placed in a folder called "Imported on xxxxxxxx".

Alternatively you could use back up software that automatically saves the original files to the required location.

Look at something like Integeo, which copies files with the orriginal directory structure to a predetermined folder, i.e Backups.

Mac users can simply use Time Machine

So you make a new folder on a separate drive in advance of the import? Or do you do it within LR?

This will be a bit of a pain after the convenience of on-line storage but needs must.

Lightroom does it for me, it always has, other than one release where it was a known bug. Are you using the latest version?
