I have just installed an SSD into my PC to use purely as a boot drive, and to keep things clean I did a fresh install of Windows - so the SSD is now the C: drive

The source of some of my photos that have been imported into Lightroom were stored on the previous C: drive, but will soon be transferred over to a new hard drive (G: ) so obviously Lightroom will not be able to locate the source of them.

What's the best and quickest way I can move the photos to the new drive, keep the history of changes etc I've made to those photos, and link them from Lightroom to their new source?

Thanks.

Don't you move them and then create a new catalog????????

Right click on the folder that has a ? next to it and one of the options is "Update folder location" If you do it at the top level folder, it will do all subdirectories too.

I'm worried the history of the changes to the images won't be stored if I do it that way.

Ok, thanks. Will that keep all of the changes I've made to those images?

I copy folders from a Photo_Temp to external storage when im finished. I just cut/drag the folder across from Windows itself then right click "update folder location" in Lightroom.

OK, cheers.

Lightroom itself will also be moving over to the new drive and wiped off the old one.

Is it just a case of exporting the catalog, storing it on new drive then reimporting when Lightroom has been installed on the new drive?

like andy said, once youve moved the files and the catalogue (REMEMBER TO RETAIN YOUR CATALOGUE) to where you want them just open the catalogue then right click and locate missing files.

I don't even export. I just use the OS to copy the catalogue to where i now want it to live then open it in lightroom as normal from its new location.
